Diamond Named Booktrade Distributor for Checker Book Publishing Group

Official Press Release

Diamond Book Distributors and Checker Book Publishing Group have expanded their original distribution agreement, making DBD the exclusive U.S. distributor of the publisher's English-language graphic novels to the bookstore, library, warehouse, mass merchandise and direct markets.

The Dayton, OH-based graphic novel specialist was founded in 2000 and has published collected editions of such hit titles as Alien Legion: Force Nomad, Alien Legion: Piecemaker, Clive Barker's Hellraiser (based on one of the most popular horror movie series of all time), the Eisner-nominated anthology Clive Barker's Tapping the Vein, and Supreme: The Story of the Year (collecting the acclaimed Alan Moore run of Supreme). The publisher's future line-up is just as strong, with compilations of the works of Winsor McCay, Milton Caniff, Alex Raymond, and more.

"Checker continues to woo fans with classic stories and a wealth of respected talent," said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes. "The company's dedication to high-quality editions of hard-to-find material has made Checker an important factor in the preservation and dissemination of some truly great work."

"We've been very impressed with Diamond's performance on our behalf in the direct market, and in a limited bookstore distribution role for the past year," said Checker Publisher Mark Thompson. "Their familiarity with and love for comics and cartooning is institutional, and it's matched by their knowledge of the marketplace."

Diamond's Sales Team will continue working with bookstores, book wholesalers, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, and libraries to place Checker's titles throughout much of the world (non-direct market accounts in the U.K. and Canada are excepted from the new agreement). "We're happy to keep spreading the word about some of the best material yet collected," Schanes added.
