In conjunction with Free Comic Book Day, Diamond Comic Distributors is looking for "Comics' #1 Fan!"
The idea is simple: The comic book fan who does the best job of attracting attention to May 3's Free Comic Book Day will win a selection of prizes, including a gift certificate from Diamond worth $250.00 at a participating comic book store!
"Free Comic Book Day is about getting attention for the industry and for the artform," said Diamond Marketing Communications Manager Barry Lyga. "Last year, thousands of fans did their parts by talking up Free Comic Book Day in chat rooms, on message boards, with friends and family. This year, we want them to take it even higher...and we're stepping up with a reward to match!"
In order to win, contestants need only do something to draw attention to Free Comic Book Day - locally, nationally, or internationally - and send proof of performance to Diamond. Diamond will judge the entries and dub one lucky winner "Comics' #1 Fan." The winner will be covered both on the Free Comic Book Day website and in an upcoming issue of Previews.
"We want people to think big, think creative, maybe even think a little bit crazy," said Lyga. "Given all that, of course, all entries must be safe and legal. We don't want anyone getting hurt or going to jail for this! Have fun and play hard."
In addition to Diamond's gift certificate, other prizes are being stocked-piled for the winner's taking, courtesy of publishers and retailers. They currently include:
- A Spider-Man/Green Goblin print signed by John Romita and Alex Ross from Marvel!
- Lunch with Joe Quesada and a tour of the Marvel offices, again from Marvel! (Winner must live in New York City area or travel to NYC for this prize.)
- An EC Vault of Horror HC Collection from The Laughing Ogre!
- Four full memberships to Comic-Con International: San Diego from the folks at Comic-Con International!
Further prizes will be announced as they are added. Prizes may be added at any time up to the contest's final day.
The contest ends at midnight on May 2, with entries due to Diamond by May 15. Complete rules and details are available on the Free Comic Book Day website at http://www.FreeComicBookDay.com.
