An early report regarding Diablo IV's friends-and-family alpha test bodes well for the upcoming hack and slash action role-playing game.

"Another fun but minor Blizzard tidbit that I haven't seen reported anywhere yet: a bunch of people are playing an early build of Diablo IV right now thanks to a friends-and-family alpha test," industry insider Jason Schreier wrote on Twitter. "Players are under NDA, but I'm hearing mostly positive buzz."

In the replies, one user mentioned that the highly-controversial Diablo Immortal was also received positively by playtesters. Schreier replied, "Because by all accounts it's an excellent mobile action-RPG -- it's just marred by microtransactions. People should reserve judgement of Diablo IV until it's out, of course, but Blizzard has said pretty clearly that the MTX are cosmetic-only."

Diablo IV Is Slated for Release in 2023

As its title implies, Diablo IV is the fourth main-series entry in Blizzard's Diablo series of action RPGs. The game is being developed for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It is slated to release worldwide sometime in 2023. Diablo IV brings back features established in previous entries, such as procedurally generated dungeons and loot-focused character-building, as well as introduces new ones to the series, such as open-world gameplay and PVP interactions.

The original Diablo released exclusively for Microsoft Windows in 1997, though made its way to macOS and the original PlayStation in 1998. A sequel, Diablo II, released on PC and Mac in 2000. Over a decade later, Diablo III released for PC and Mac in 2012. The threequel ultimately made its way to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, the PS4 and Xbox One in 2014 and, most recently, the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Developed by Blizzard Team 3 and Blizzard Albany and published by Blizzard Entertainment, Diablo IV is slated to release on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2023.
