The Devil will rise again.

A new report from French news outlet ActuGaming suggests that Blizzard is developing a new edition of the classic Diablo 2. There is some legitimacy to the claims, as the editor of the site previously correctly predicted Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

According to "sources close to the studio," the game will be titled Diablo 2: Resurrected and is aiming to launch in late 2020. Vicarious Visions, which is responsible for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, is working with Blizzard on the game.

Released in 2000 as a sequel to 1997's Diablo for Microsoft Windows, Classic Mac OS and macOS, Diablo is a dark fantasy and horror action role-playing game. It has sold over 4 million copies worldwide and remains popular to this day. An expansion game, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, was released in 2001, followed by a sequel, Diablo 3, in May 2012. A fourth game is currently in development.

A remastered Diablo 2 would not be the first game that Blizzard would re-release in 2020. Warcraft III: Reforged — a remastered edition of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion The Frozen Throne — debuted in January 2020.
