Dexter fans won't see most of the original cast members in the show's reboot according to actor James Remar, who played Dexter's adoptive father on the show.

Posted on Instagram, Remar revealed the information in a video for a fan. Admitting that Harry Morgan was one of the best characters he ever played, the actor responded to questions about Dexter's reboot, saying, "They just didn't ask any of the original cast back. I don't know what they're doing."

He continued, "It's too bad because all of us wanted to go back but you know, it's their show, so they're going to do what they want to do." Remar was a major part of the original series, as he participated in all eight seasons of the show. So far, none of the other cast members besides Michael C. Hall have revealed any involvement with the reboot.

In Oct. 2020, seven years after Dexter's last episode, Showtime announced a reboot of the series, which will serve as the show's ninth season. The reboot will see Hall return to his role as the titular character. Original showrunner Clyde Philips will also be participating in the ninth season, which began filming this year.

Dexter originally aired for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. Based on Jeff Lindsay's book series, the show received many accolades including 24 Primetime Emmy nominations and 10 Golden Globe nominations. The series follows forensic technician Dexter Morgan as he balances his work and his secret life as a serial killer.

Created by Clyde Phillips, Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott. Showtime's revival series has yet to receive a premiere date.
