Showtime released the first trailer for Dexter: New Blood.

The trailer begins with Dexter getting pulled over with a meat cleaver sitting on his passenger's seat. However, the responding officer is actually Dexter's new love interest, Angela Bishop (played by Julia Jones). When Angela informs Dexter of a string of missing children, his lust for murder (aka the Dark Passenger) reawakens, and as the trailer concludes, Dexter is greeted by his son Harrison.

Dexter: New Blood is the revival of the Showtime series that ran for eight seasons featuring Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, a forensic expert working for the Miami Police Department who also happens to be a serial killer. The 10-episode project was ordered in October 2020, with both Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips citing the original series' notoriously disappointing ending as their reason for coming back. "So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was," Phillips explained. "It's a great opportunity to write a second finale. This is an opportunity to make that right. But that's not why we're doing it."

"And let's be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling," Hall said in January. "I include myself in the group of people that wondered, 'What the hell happened to that guy?'"

Also present in the new trailer is Jennifer Carpenter's Deb Morgan, who's poised to serve a crucial role in New Blood. "...I think Deb… represents a corner of Dexter's mind that we all have in our own heads that says, 'Well, wait a minute. If you do this, then here are the consequences and then you decide whether or not to do it whether or not to pursue it,'" Phillips said in August.
