Dexter star Michael C. Hall recommended four episodes from the eight-season Showtime series that would best prepare audiences for Dexter: New Blood.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Golden Globe winner highlighted four installments from Dexter's past that serve as a prelude to the upcoming New Blood revival. Hall provided an introduction to each episode for a video interview, beginning with the advice that viewers "start with the first episode and then watch them in order."

"The pilot episode is really good," Hall said. "It's one of my favorites." Emphasizing the importance of watching the series in its proper sequence, the actor then selected Season 1, Episode 10 "Seeing Red," saying, "If nothing else, I love it because I got to do this really fun faceplant into a room full of blood."

Fast-forwarding several seasons, Hall identified Season 3, Episode 10, "Go Your Own Way" as the next key moment in Dexter's history. The third season episode sticks out in Hall's mind because of actor Jimmy Smits' performance in a tense rooftop scene.

"And then I would have to say the finale of Season 4," Hall concluded. Referring to the Season 4 finale, "The Getaway," he teased, "If you haven't seen the show yet, I won't say anything more than that... You'll see what I mean."

Dexter is currently available to stream on Hulu with the Showtime add-on. Dexter: New Blood is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 7.
