Deadline doesn't specify what production forced Wise to exit Captain Marvel, but it is safe to assume the culprit is She's Gotta Have It, which was renewed for a second season earlier this year.

Wise plays the lead role of Nola Darling in the Spike Lee-helmed series that looks to be gearing up for production relatively soon, judging by a recent Instagram post from Lee.

It was first announced that Wise would be joining Captain Marvel back in January. The actor was thought to be playing the role of Monica Rambeau, aka Spectrum, although details surrounding her character remained sparse. It is currently unknown who the studio will bring in to replace Wise, though a casting announcement should not be too far off.
