WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Devil's Reign #3, on sale now.

Devil's Reign #3, by Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Marcio Menyz and Clayton Cowles, may have killed off one of Matt Murdock/Daredevil's longest-standing allies -- Foggy Nelson.

The Devil's Reign event has seen Wilson Fisk/Kingpin using his position at the Mayor of New York, which he has held since just after 2017's Secret Empire, to ban superheroes, which has resulted in a number of prominent arrests. In hopes of stopping Fisk, Luke Cage has thus launched his own mayoral campaign, with Foggy acting as his lawyer. At the end of Devil's Reign #3, Foggy pays the price for his allegiances. When he returns to his office, Foggy is ambushed by two men. As they pummel Foggy, one of the men remarks that his boss "thinks [Foggy is] better off never talking again." The issue then ends with Foggy laying in a bloody heap on the floor.

At this time, it's not confirmed that Foggy is, in fact, dead. Additionally, none of the remaining solicitations for Devil's Reign indicate any big deaths. However, the recently announced new Daredevil series does provide some indication that not everyone will survive the events of Devil's Reign. As such, the grievous harm inflicted on Foggy here may prove fatal, though the character has faked his own death in the past.

Created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Foggy first appeared in 1964's Daredevil #1, and he's been friends with Matt since they were students at Columbia Law School. They eventually opened their own private practice, and Foggy is one of the few people to know that Matt is Daredevil. Foggy has appeared alongside Daredevil in his various live-action projects.

The plot synopsis from Devil's Reign #3's solicitation information reads: "As a gauntlet of super villains stand between Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Daredevil and liberating the heroes who have been captured by Fisk’s law enforcement, they’re ALL about to learn that the danger is closer than they ever thought possible. Civilians, heroes, even children – NO ONE is safe from the Kingpin’s wrath."

On sale now from Marvel Comics, Devil's Reign #3 features covers from Marco Checchetto and Matthew Wilson; Jorge Fornés; Mark Bagley; and Andrew Hennessy and Edgar Delgado. The next book in the mainline series, Devil's Reign #4, releases Feb. 9.
