The American manga series Devil's Candy will soon be making its way to Japan courtesy of Kadokawa's Aokishi magazine.

Per Anime News Network, Aokishi announced on its official blog that it would be serializing a Japanese version of Devil's Candy starting with its October issue, which is due for release on Thursday, Oct. 20. Viz Media currently publishes the English language version of the manga-inspired comic as part of its Viz Originals line.

What Is Devil's Candy?

Devil's Candy is written by Bikkuri, also known as voice actor Clint Bickham, and illustrated by Rem. Bikkuri and Rem initially launched the manga-inspired comic on their website in 2014. Viz published the first physical volume of Devil's Candy on July 13, 2021. The second volume followed suit earlier this year on July 12. The physical books include bonus chapters not featured in the online version of the comic.

"At Hemlock Heart Academy, science wiz Kazu Decker shows off his skills by creating a humanoid girl named Pandora," an official synopsis for Devil's Candy reads. "But in a world of monsters and mayhem, surviving high school is harder than getting good grades, and lessons often turn violent. Fortunately for them, Pandora's stoic nature and seemingly limitless strength, paired with Kazu's luck, knowledge and friends, get them out of trouble almost as often as they get mixed up in it!"

In Devil's Candy Vol. 1, "Kazu introduces [his classmates] to Pandora, whose violent streak and impressive strength cause more destruction in his already chaotic school life. Braving runaway science experiments, howling apparitions and a deadly fashion show, Pandora learns that life at a devil high school is a day-to-day struggle for survival."

Meanwhile, Vol. 2 finds Kazu "having a hard time getting used to Pandora's growing independence, but then an elite rival academy, Sacred Crown, challenges the ill-matched students of Hemlock Heart to a violent game of Eggscram. Pandora's unlimited strength soon gets recognized by a society of sinister daemons beyond the schoolyard, and now it's not just Kazu who wants Pandora's attention!"

Of course, it's certainly not unprecedented for a piece of American media inspired by Japanese media to come full circle and be localized for a Japanese audience. One of the most notable examples as of late is Rooster Teeth's anime-inspired animated series RWBY, which was not only dubbed into Japanese, but also spawned numerous manga titles and, more recently, a full-blown anime adaptation.
