Declared by many to be one of the best video game franchises of all time, Devil May Cry focuses primarily on demon hunter Dante and his allies and the constant threat of demonic invasion. Dante may have gone through many changes from the beginning of the series to the latest versions (Devil May Cry 5 and its subsequent special edition), but his purpose, and that of allies like Nero and Vergil, has been constant: To battle the demon hordes.

A couple of years ago there was talk of developing an animated series, although it's unclear where that project is at now. But none of the battles with demons would amount to much without the use of some impressive– and impressively weird– weaponry.

10 Pandora

Devil May Cry - Pandora

Part suitcase, part glaive, part mobile artillery station, rocket launcher/minigun, Pandora is probably the most versatile form of weaponry in the game. It’s a Devil Arm briefcase, and it can be transformed into 666 different weapons.

While it’s true that, in-game, players can only access seven, the combinations that can be created between melee weapons and guns makes it a formidable choice in the hands of a player who is experienced enough to be able to take advantage of the possibilities.

9 Ebony & Ivory

Ebony & Ivory are Dante’s classic pistols, and made their appearance in the very first game of the series. With unlimited bullets, they give Dante the ability to attack effectively from a distance in classic gunslinger style. Ebony allows for accuracy, while Ivory is tuned for rapid-fire speed.

While they aren’t intrinsically powerful weapons, their real usefulness is that they can keep enemies stuck in mid-air, allowing players to maintain combos under fire. They’re a standard part of Dante’s repertoire of weapons.

8 King Cerberus

Devil May Cry - King Cerberus

Dante first gained the icy nunchakus known as Cerberus in Devil May Cry 3 after he’s defeated the three-headed demon. With them, he gets their ultra-fast striking capabilities. King Cerberus is the DMC5 upgrade, adding lightning and fire attacks to its icy abilities.

With it, he can hit hard and super fast, with a certain visual flair that made even the original Cerberus a fan favorite. It’s the weapon of choice in close range fighting, and the Jump Cancel play allows for multi-hit attacks from the air.

7 The Cavaliere

One of the game's biggest draws comes from Dante and his wild antics. Weapons like the Cavaliere push the game in that direction. From the dual-wield swords Agni & Rudra in DMC3, DMC5 brings dual-wielding motorcycle chainsaws in the Cavaliere.

It’s an over-the-top weapon that Dante can also ride as a bike by connecting the two halves together. It’s crazy, appealing, and a powerful weapon in the right hands. It handles slow, but rewards players for their patience and precision with heavy hits.

6 Nevan

Devil May Cry nevan

Nevan is a weapon for experienced players, and even then, it can be tricky to use. But, the rewards in terms of dazzling style and formidable moves in battle are immense.

As an exquisite succubus, she flirts with and battles Dante in DMC3. She becomes an electric guitar/battle scythe that Dante later uses to play in a concert. It’s not just any guitar though— it can summon electricity in battle, along with Nevan’s bats, and gives players the ability to execute some seriously flashy combos and techniques.

5 Yamato

Devil May Cry Vergil

Vergil’s beloved trademark weapon was given to him by his father Sparda. It’s a katana of refined design, engineered for incredible speed. It can cut through just about anything– including the very fabric of space itself. It can even slice through bullets in the air.

One of its special abilities is that it can separate a half-demon into separate human and demon entities, and it can cut a thousand tiny cuts in a very small area. It has been one of the most powerful weapons in the game from the first series.

4 Red Queen & Blue Rose

Devil May Cry - Nero

Nero’s trademark weapons were first seen in Devil May Cry 4. Red Queen is part sword, part bike, and delivers heavy hits, albeit in a slow style of battle. As a sword, Red Queen is more precise than Dante’s slash and hack weapon style.

The motorcycle engine revs it up several levels with a flammable fuel that increases its power. Nero’s Blue Rose gun is powerful, and fires shots infused with demonic energy from its double-barrels. Together, they make for some lethal combos and possibilities.

3 Balrog/Gauntlets

Devil May Cry - Dante using Balrog

Balrog is the DMC5 version of the gauntlets from previous series, such as Ifrit, Beowulf, and Gilgamesh. Each set of greaves and gauntlets allows for short-range striking and kicking.

What's new about Balrog is that players can toggle between one moveset for punches, and another for kicks. In other words, it’s like two weapons in one, both perfect for hand-to-hand combat. In kick mode, it allows for flashy moves like cartwheel-kicks and breakdance moves to dazzle enemies as it deals powerful blows.

2 Alastor

Devil May Cry - Alastor

Dante found Alastor, his second sword, in the sculpture of a woman in the first Devil May Cry. It's the sword form of Alastor the Thunder Devil, and using it allows Dante to perform Air Raid— or execute eletrocution attacks while airborne.

While it only appeared in the first game, it remains one of the most powerful weapons, dealing incredible damage with a large moveset. It gives Dante the Devil Trigger ability, which lets him take the form of a winged demon, and its attacks are infused with electricity.

1 Devil Sword Dante

Devil May Cry - Devil Sword Dante

In Devil May Cry 5, Dante absorbed both Rebellion and his father's Devil Sword Sparda into his body. The blade that came out was Devil Sword Dante, with claws that run up the blade and a red jewel on the pommel. In some attacks, it splits own down the middle to create a second blade made of hot red energy. It allows him to take on Urizen in DMC5, and gives him access to Sin Devil Trigger Mode to use his True Devil transformation.
