New Detective Pikachu Trailer Reveals First Look at Mewtwo

The new trailer for Ryan Reynolds' Detective Pikachu is here, and it contains a look at the immensely powerful psychic Pokemon Mewtwo.

The trailer features a lot of new footage, which is primarily focused on theorizing what happened to Harry Goodman, the father of protagonist Tim Goodman. The titular Detective Pikachu also reveals some of his backstory and how he came to find Tim. The footage reveals new looks at a lot of Pokemon, including Cubone, Eevee, Greninja and, of course, Mewtwo.

Warner Bros. is seemingly already looking into the possibility of making a sequel to Detective Pikachu, though those plans will likely depend on how the movie fares at the box office. The studio has signed Oren Uziel, who co-wrote Men in Black International and 22 Jump Street, to pen the script for the sequel, indicating that it's confident in how Detective Pikachu will be received. There is already plenty of hype surrounding Detective Pikachu, so it's no surprise the studios are looking at potential sequels.

Directed by Rob Letterman, Detective Pikachu stars Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe and the voice of Ryan Reynolds. The film opens in theaters on May 10.
