Legendary Comics appeared at Emerald City Comic Con and according to /Film, the Detective Pikachu graphic novel will feature the creative team of Brian Buccellato (Injustice: Gods Among Us) and Nelson Dániel (Judge Dredd) and should reach stores following the release of the film. The story will "draw inspiration" from the movie, which stars Justice Smith as Tim Goodman and Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to work with The Pokémon Company International,” said Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics. “Pokémon is a globally-adored brand, and we absolutely loved expanding the story of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu onto the page with the help of Brian’s words and Nelson’s art.”

This is an interesting progression as the movie is based on a game, which was itself based on a Japanese comic book and television show. Now, an American version of the Pokemon comic book character is coming to fans.

Directed by Rob Letterman, Detective Pikachu stars Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe and the voice of Ryan Reynolds. The film opens in theaters on May 10.
