With 2019 marking the 80th anniversary of Batman and Detective Comics #1000 quickly becoming one of the bestselling single comic book issues of the year, DC announced a deluxe edition of the landmark issue that will include even more all-star content.
Featuring the full collection of stories from March's Detective Comics #1000 by superstar comic book creators, including Tom King, Tony S. Daniel, Joëlle Jones, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Brian Michael Bendis, Alex Maleev, Warren Ellis, Becky Cloonan and more, the deluxe hardcover will also feature two all-new stories not included in the original anniversary issue.
After first working together on 1996's Batman Chronicles #5, Alan Grant and Scott McDaniel are reuniting to tell a new story of Batman attempting to stop a conflict between Anarky and The Ventriloquist from consuming the entire city. Another original story from Robert Venditti and Stephen Segovia has the Dark Knight run a gauntlet of his greatest enemies after Two-Face unites them to kill Batman once and for all.
"Batman has been my favorite comics character since I was four years old and working on the character has been the high point of my career," Grant said in a statement. "Seeing Scott’s artwork on the [Detective Comics #1000] story really brought home to me how much I love the character, and I think Batman has at least another 80 years of crime-fighting left in him!”
In addition to the two new stories, the deluxe edition will include a gallery of all 32 variant covers from the original release including retailer-exclusives from legendary artists such as Steve Rude, Michael Cho, Jim Steranko, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Miller, Tim Sale, Jock, Greg Capullo and more.
Detective Comics #1000: The Deluxe Edition is written and illustrated by a whole host of superstar comic book creators. It is scheduled to go on sale on June 12 from DC.
