Intense speed, cool looking tracks, slick looking sports cars and scrap metal being flung into the air occasionally is what Destruction AllStars is all about. A vehicular combat game, Destruction AllStars helps satiate gamer's strange primal need to smash steel cars into each other. However, if players are expecting something like Rocket League, then they would be mistaken, because Destruction AllStars better resembles the Burnout franchise.

If reducing opponents into heaps of scrap metal while driving at high speeds sounds interesting, then consider picking up this PlayStation 5 game. With that being said, here are some tips, tricks, and strategies that can really help new players drive their competition into the ground.

Car and On-Foot Combat

Destruction AllStars features a hybrid of vehicular and on-foot combat. To new players, this may seem confusing, and leaving the safety of their fast-traveling metal vehicles might sound like a daunting idea. But constantly staying in a car is not a good idea because the combat system was made to have players hop out of their cars once in a while. It is important to eject out of a car that's about to be destroyed, otherwise the unfortunate driver will be eliminated along with the vehicle.

This is especially evident in the game's Mayhem mode. Players will often be seen running along platforms to pick up shards or buffs. It is much easier to get atop these platforms and run along walls when players launch themselves out of their vehicles and use their momentum to stick a good landing. Missing a platform leaves players vulnerable, but luckily a few jumps can help either recover a vehicle or get on a platform.

Points in Mayhem Mode

Mayhem Mode acts something like a free-for-all battle royale of speed and steel. Players win by ramming opposing vehicles with their own and, hopefully, eliminating the other driver. But it isn't as simple as just driving a car into another -- that's where the points come in. Different kinds of hits yield a certain amount of points, and the person with the most points secures first place.

For example, a light hit without a lot of speed or damage, would earn a player one point, while an extreme hit grants four points.  You can also earn points when hitting and knocking out drivers. A common strategy is to locate a floating buff, which doubles the player's points. Try to time this pick up with the activation of a special car, that way the buff will apply to the car's abilities. To get the buff, drivers usually need to launch themselves out of their vehicles, but they can also perform double jumps when activating Breaker abilities.

Size Matters

With vehicles, size really does to make a difference in terms of speed, durability, handling and rams. There are different types of rams which, other than simply driving a car into another, act as a main method of attack. Front rams and side rams help players hit hard, but have separate cooldowns. Players will find it much easier to perform these rams as faster small cars. On the other hand, larger cars are slower, but can survive more hits.

When choosing to drive a larger car, make sure to not chase any of the smaller cars, as its a challenge to catch up to their speed. However, should a small car try to come in for a hit, they will be close enough for the larger tougher cars to hit back. On the other hand, as a smaller fast car, keep in mind that big cars have a better chance of surviving a hit that a smaller car may not. Be patient to speed up close to slower cars for a front or side ram.

Blocking Cars

It is highly possible that a player will find themselves in a sticky on foot situation. Maybe they just survived an attack by saving their driver with a launch at the cost of their vehicle. In that case, it is completely possible to recover a new vehicle by jumping on to a location where the car is safely waiting to be claimed. Problem is, the driver has to run there first through a mass conglomeration of speeding cars looking to run exposed drivers over.

Other than trying to jump or dodge cars coming their way, players can use blockers, which are located on the map, for a bit of protection. These blockers appear as circles on the ground and, when a driver walks over them, protective cylindrical walls will rise up to block any cars approaching. They will also deal a small bit of damage back as cars collide into them. These blockers will shortly sink back down into the ground, but hopefully the driver used them to safely get to their new vehicle before then.

Getting a Car

To be one of the first players in a car at the start of a match, perform a roll as soon as hitting the ground to gain a bit of momentum. It is also possible to hijack occupied cars, but only when the cars are on their launch platforms, so make sure to not take too much time on the launch platform after getting in a car.

That being said, don't be too quick to rush a car launch either, because it is possible to launch a car at a terrible angle or spot where not enough speed can be built up or too many cars are present. Take a bit of time to assess a good launch location and to aim.
