The Krakoa era of the X-Men has heaped changes on Marvel's mutants, giving them a new home and making them into a world power. That continues in Destiny Of X, the next phase of the tale. After Inferno, Krakoa is a very different place, with the power structure of the island nation drastically changed from how it was before. New stars are rising on Krakoa and their ascendance is about to change everything.

The X-Men titles have reclaimed their place as Marvel's premier franchise, and as Destiny Of X begins, there's an entirely new hierarchy of important mutants that stories will revolve around.

10 Professor X's Power Has Been Lessened But It Isn't Gone

Marvel Comics' Professor X with a Krakoan flower

In the early days of Krakoa, Xavier was easily the most powerful mutant on the island. He was the only one who had the power to back-up mutant memories and access them through them Cerebro, his money funded the whole thing, and he was the last word on every decision. However, as the island became self-sufficient financially and mutants like Emma Frost, Jean Grey, and Hope learned to use Cerebro's resurrection functions, his importance dimmed.

It all came to a head with the discovery of the secret he and Magneto were keeping about Moira MacTaggert in Inferno. Xavier still holds a special place on the island but his prestige has fallen considerably.

9 Magneto's Fall From Grace Has Changed His Standing

X-Men Trial of Magneto

Magneto took a double hit lately, first he was blamed for the death of Scarlet Witch, and then he was caught up in the events of Inferno. Much like Xavier, he was once one of Krakoa's most powerful citizens in the beginning. There was the Quiet Council but Magneto was part of the triumvirate that actually ruled the island along with Krakoa founders Xavier and Moira.

Magneto is still important to the island, but things have changed a lot for him. The loss of prestige from the multiple black eyes he's taken has changed his standing and what he does next is anyone's guess.

8 Mister Sinister Has Something Brewing

Mister Sinister was one of the focuses of Hellions and he was definitely working towards something. Krakoan resurrection was possible due in large part to his DNA bank and he was experimenting with chimeras, mutant clones that combine a combination of powers from different individuals. His plans took a hit at the end of Hellions but he made a major breakthrough.

Sinister is about to play a big role in Immortal X-Men, a book focusing on the Quiet Council. He's always been an agent of chaos on the island and it remains to be seen how his plans affect the rest of Krakoa.

7 Wolverine Labors Tirelessly To Keep Krakoa Safe

Wolverine X Lives X Deaths 1

Wolverine has been pretty low profile on Krakoa, mostly working with X-Force and on his own to head off threats to the island before they get to be too much. He ceded his traditional place on the X-Men to his daughter Laura, but he remains one of the most dangerous mutants in the world. His starring role in the X-Men event X Lives/X Deaths Of Wolverine looks to elevate his standing on the island.

Working tirelessly to save Professor X from Omega Red in the past as a mysterious other Wolverine hunts down the depowered Moira MacTaggert and a team-up with Deadpool looming in the future add up to make Wolverine a more important part of the island.

6 Xavier And Magneto's Loss Is Emma Frost's Gain

X-Men Inferno White Queen Emma Frost

Emma Frost has been around the top of the mutant world for a while now, and post-Inferno, she looks to be more powerful than ever. It was Emma who spilled the beans to Destiny and Mystique about Moira after Xavier and Magneto let her in on the secret. The trust in her this built, as well as the loss of confidence in Xavier and Magneto, have strapped a rocket to her back.

Already powerful, Emma looks to be taking an even more important place on the Quiet Council moving forward, perhaps even stepping into the power vacuum left from Xavier's and Magneto's fall, something she surely knew would happen when she stood against them.

5 Cassandra Nova's Return Promises Chaos

Scarlet Witch's creation of Elysium Fields allows for the resurrection of mutants that Sinister didn't have access to, and one who has come back is Cassandra Nova. While Krakoa has forgiven many villainous mutants, Cassandra is responsible for some truly reprehensible acts. Her joining of the Marauders is rather interesting and is a harbinger of chaos to come.

Nova has long been about destroying everything her brother created, so allowing her a place on Krakoa could be a recipe for disaster. This gives her an insane amount of power, as she can singlehandedly ruin Krakoa for everyone if she's not watched closely.

4 Colossus Is An Unwitting Mole On The Quiet Council

X-Men Inferno Quiet Council Colossus

Colossus has long been one of the most formidable mutants on the planet but he's not the most powerful member of his family. That distinction almost certainly belongs to his reality controlling older brother Mikhail, who is leading the Russian response to Krakoa. He's taken control of his brother from afar and Xavier and Magneto putting him on the Quiet Council gives Mikhail access to his enemies he didn't have before.

Colossus is an unknown quality. While he's sometimes in control of his actions, Mikhail's power over him isn't known to anyone and could spell disaster for when Mikhail chooses to use him against the people of Krakoa. He's a time bomb waiting to go off.

3 Storm's Place As Regent Of Arrako Makes Her One Of The Most Powerful People In The Solar System

X-Men SWORD Storm Tarn 3

Storm has long been one of the most powerful mutants on Earth. She's been worshiped as a goddess and was the queen of Wakanda but her current place as regent of Arrako has turned her into a power unlike ever before. She's now one of the most important people in the solar system, as Arrako is recognized by the galactic powers as the capital of the Sol system.

Storm spends her days proving to the mutants of Arrako that she's worthy to lead them and ensuring the planet's survival in a harsh universe. With her upcoming role in X-Men Red, Storm is about to become an even bigger part of Krakoan society than ever before.

2 Mystique Won Her Contest Against Xavier And Magneto

Mystique by Artgerm

Mystique has been one of Krakoa's deadliest mutants, her skills utilized by Xavier and Magneto for secret missions. They held the resurrection of her wife Destiny just out of reach but in Inferno, she took matters into her own hands. With Destiny's resurrection, Mystique is free to do what she pleases without Xavier and Magneto having any power over her.

She's already begun, depowering Moira MacTaggert and hunting her down. She and Destiny have become a new Krakoan power couple, with more control than ever. With nothing holding Mystique back, it will be interesting to see what she does next.

1 Destiny's Precognitive Powers Look To Play A Big Role In The Future

X-Men Inferno Destiny

Destiny's resurrection was one of the most important parts of Inferno and it changed Krakoa forever. She and Mystique removed Moira as a factor on Krakoa and are now two of the most powerful mutants in the nation. Mystique is the muscle and Destiny is the brain; her precognitive abilities allowing her to plan ahead in ways no one else on the Quiet Council can.

Destiny has taken her place as the most important mutant on the island. She's an expert long-term planner because she can see the strands of the future and she has Mystique at her disposal, as well as other mutants who were close to her before her death. Destiny is an unknown but important factor on Krakoa.
