Grandmaster Nightfalls return to Destiny 2 with The Hollowed Lair at the weekly reset on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Guardians will need a minimum power level of 1345 to tackle a Grandmaster Nightfall, according to the latest This Week At Bungie, although the in-game recommendation is 1370. Season of the Lost is also set to bring changes to the way Grandmaster Nightfalls operate, but that update won't be implemented in-game until December, likely coinciding with the 30th Anniversary event. In the meantime, Guardians can begin their quest for the Conqueror title and earn some pinnacle gear exclusive to this season.
Grandmaster Nightfalls are the hardest available version of strikes and can be played solo or with a maximum fireteam of three. With the season in full swing, Bungie has plenty in store for players who are looking for a challenge in their neverending quest for more loot.
The Corrupted Strikes Back
Season of the Lost brings some of the most difficult Grandmaster Nightfalls back into play: The Corrupted, a strike from Forsaken which tasks Guardians with rescuing a Taken Techeun, and Proving Grounds, a new strike from the recent Season of the Chosen where Guardians fight back against a Cabal fleet of Empress Caiatl's. Furthermore, The Hollowed Lair makes a reappearance. This strike will have a small twist to it since the Scorn now wield stasis.
These Grandmaster Nightfalls are not for the faint of heart, and anyone thinking to solo them will need to prepare themselves accordingly. This season's Ager's Scepter Exotic trace rifle is particularly well-suited toward area control and may prove useful in these upcoming Grandmaster Nightfalls for any Guardian.
The full rotation of Grandmaster Nightfalls for this season includes The Hollowed Lair, The Corrupted, Proving Grounds, Exodus Crash, Lake of Shadows and The Devil's Lair. The Champion modifiers available for Season of the Lost via the Wayfinder's Compass are anti-barrier auto rifle, overload bow and sword, and unstoppable pulse rifle and sidearm.
Reducing FOMO One Update at a Time
Bungie previously announced accessibility changes coming to the Grandmaster Nightfalls with Season of the Lost. This update focuses on the catch-up node. This node allows Guardians with the Conqueror title to access all available Grandmaster Nightfall strikes in the playlist.
Completing all six Grandmaster Nightfalls in a season once is required to achieve the title of Conqueror. The full seal in Season of the Lost involves earning high scores in Nightfalls, defeating Champions in Nightfalls and using each elemental subclass to complete different Grandmaster Nightfalls. Once a Guardian achieves the title of Conqueror, a new set of Triumphs will appear. Achieving this next set of Triumphs will gild the Conqueror title. Gilded titles reset at the end of each season.
Beginning with Season 16, the catch-up node will be available at the beginning of the season and will disappear once a Guardian has gilded his or her Conqueror title. Previously, this node was available during the last three weeks of a season. For Season of the Lost, this node is scheduled to be added sometime during December; it won't be available immediately in October when Grandmaster Nightfalls go live.
The catch-up node will then disappear once Guardians gild their Conqueror title. When playing in a fireteam, as long as the leader has not gilded his or her title, all Grandmaster Nightfalls will still be available to choose from. Changing the way the catch-up node functions will allow Guardians more scheduling flexibility to access all Grandmaster Nightfalls for a longer stretch of time. This update should also help reduce some of the fear of missing out on limited and challenging events like these may otherwise provoke.
