Xivu Arath, the antagonist of Season of the Hunt, is reintroducing new light players to the Hive gods of the Osmium Court. These gods are Oryx the Taken King, Savathun and Xivu Arath, who created the hive. But these Hive gods were not given their status and were not born with these powers; they took them by the right of the Sword Logic. These siblings slaughtered their way across the stars and found untold power along the way.

The Krill of the Osmium Court lived on scraps of metal floating in the deep oceans of the giant gaseous planet they called home. Three siblings named Aurush, Xi Ro and Sathona were the king of the Osmium Throne's children. Their father was murdered by Taox of the Helium Drinkers, a rival faction on Fundament. Her father's death spurred Aurush to say enough is enough, "we aren't meant to be the world's prey."

The sisters found an old ship shaped like a needle and used it to journey into the deep. The deep whispered to Aurush, and she listened. They burrowed deep past the oceans into the crushing abyss and reached a great serpent called the Leviathan. This was an ancient being so large it's beyond comprehension. It warned the siblings to turn back and save the world from themselves, or they will live as death and destruction incarnate. Xi Ro, Sathona and Aurush passionately rejected the Leviathan's warning. They will do or kill what they must to take the power they seek. So, they got back in their ship and burrowed even deeper into Fundament.

Eventually, the deep reached back and offered them the power to kill their enemies: five great worms that have the power to grant wishes to those who would accept. Some speculate that these worms are also the Ahamkara dragons. Regardless of what they are, they made a bargain with the sisters. Each will be given one of the god worm's larvae. These larvae will continue to grow in power as long as it's fed with death. As long as they kill, the larvae will be satisfied and they would be powerful. Fail to feed the worm, and it will consume them until they cease to exist. The sisters eagerly accepted, and they took on new forms. Sathona became the mother morph Savathun, Xi Ro became the knight morph Xivu Arath, and Aurush became male to take the king morph Auryx.

They would return to the surface with vengeance on their mind. They took the planet back by force in the name of the Osmium Court. They killed and dominated entire species until they had the ability to travel the stars. From here, they were defeated by the forces rallying around Taox, which proved enough to defeat the Osmium Court temporarily. Savathun killed her brother Auryx for his failure. This pleased the worm gods, and they rewarded Savathun with the knowledge of the Sword Logic.

The Sword Logic is the magical creed that dictates those who serve it kill until the universe is carved into its perfect final shape. With the Sword Logic, it gave the siblings the power to create the Hive, which would keep them powerful and their worms full. They shared larvae with their followers, and they too were in debt to the Sword Logic. Starting with thrall and ending with the gods themselves -- each class would kill to fulfill their tribute to the class above them. This constant funnel of death would satisfy the Sword Logic and keep all of their worms full. The Sword Logic also gave them paracasual powers to access the ascendant realm, where they could create throne worlds. A hive god can only truly die when they're murdered within their throne world.

Even with the Sword Logic and their newly formed Hive army, they still couldn't conquer the Ecumene, a great galactic empire. So Auryx picked up his sword and decapitated Xivu Arath and Savathun where they stood. He took his new power and found Akka, the worm god of secrets. By the rights of the Sword Logic, Auryx chopped Akka into pieces and found an audience with the darkness itself. From this moment, Auryx would now be known as Oryx the Taken King, and he would have the power to take his enemies and make them his own. With this new power, Oryx would wage a war so long and so great his sisters would be reborn from the destruction. They would go on to obliterate the Ecumene from existence and continued to wage war on life -- until the Guardians of the Traveler finally brought them a challenge worthy of their immense power.
