Bungie's 30th Anniversary event is live in Destiny 2, adding content that celebrates the last three decades of Bungie games. From armor with Halo's Needler spikes sticking out of the shoulder to a claymore from 1997's Myth: The Fallen Lords, longtime fans are going to love discovering references in all the new items. Serious Destiny players will be primarily concerned with acquiring the Gjallarhorn, an exotic rocket launcher that's made the jump from the original Destiny to its sequel, and it's as strong as it ever was, if not stronger.
The Gjallarhorn was famous in Destiny for its overwhelming power and ability to split apart into a swarm of micro rockets. Destiny 2 reintroduces the gun and its unique trait, further empowering Gjallarhorn with a perk that grants the cluster missile trait to nearby allies using non-exotic rocket launchers and even has a Catalyst that strengthens micro rockets plus makes reloads faster. Players already suspected the Gjallarhorn would be powerful, considering it's locked behind a paywall, but it's proven a must-have right out of the gate. Here's how to get the Gjallarhorn Exotic rocket launcher and its powerful Catalyst.
How to Get the Gjallarhorn
The Gjallarhorn is available to all players that bought the 30th Anniversary Pack or The Witch Queen Deluxe + 30th Anniversary Edition bundle. However, players will have to complete a series of tasks before they can wield the powerful Gjallarhorn and even more work before the Catalyst is within their sights. When Guardians load into Destiny 2 for the first time during the 30th Anniversary event, they'll be immediately teleported to a new activity hosted by Xur, Agent of the Nine, the Dares of Eternity. After completing it, Guardians will get a chance to talk to Xur in his treasure room, where he'll officially give them the Quest to obtain Gjallarhorn.
Players will be pointed toward Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome to start their Quest. The Hunter will ask Guardians to investigate the old Loot Cave via the new Dungeon, Grasp of Avarice. Though the Dungeon is full of devious traps, puzzles and a few harrowing encounters, a group familiar with end-game activities and the recommended won't find much of a challenge. After completing the Dungeon, Shaw Han will ask the Guardians to retrieve Wolfpack Rounds by dispatching "powerful" Fallen enemies in the Cosmodrome. The easiest way to complete this step is to do a run or two of the Exodus Garden 2A Lost Sector in The Divide. Plus, Guardians will be returning here soon.
Once players bring the Wolfpack Rounds to Shaw Han, he'll want to loop Tower gunsmith Banshee-44 in on the progress, who has one final task for Guardians. He'll ask players to enter the Exodus Garden 2A Lost Sector, defeat its boss and loot the chest. If Guardians already visited while collecting their Wolfpack Rounds, they should already be pretty familiar with the layout and be able to breeze through; otherwise, it's still just a simple Lost Sector. Afterward, head back to Shaw Han and assemble their collected parts. A workshop can be found right underneath where players load in. After interacting with the workbench, all that awaits is a short conversation with the nearby Hunter and Gjallarhorn is earned.
How to Get the Gallarhorn Catalyst
Obtaining the Gjallarhorn's Catalyst is the hardest part, but unlocking the Catalyst's power is relatively straightforward. To get the Gjallarhorn's Catalyst, Guardians are going to need to delve back into the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon. Three yellow-barred Reaver Vandals are the key to unlocking hidden chests and ultimately obtaining the Exotic rocket launcher's Catalyst.
The first Vandal can be found on a walkway off in the distance of the cave right after dropping into the dungeon. Once eliminated, the Vandal will drop Engrams that grant the "Burden by Riches" debuff. Guardians will need to collect the Engrams and run back the way they traversed to open a chest atop some scaffolding while still having the debuff. The following two Vandal/chest locations require players to complete the same task. The second Vandal is located around the large stairway with an Indiana Jones-esque trap. The enemy is to the left in the room where players begin traversing the vents. Once the debuff is obtained, players will navigate through the vents, turning right, left, and right when exiting the vents. The chest will be on a platform.
The final Vandal can be reached once players break through the Fallen Shield. Rather than progressing upwards, Guardians will want to launch themselves to the other side of the room, where they'll find their target. After the Reaver Vandal is defeated, players can grab the Engrams for the debuff and take the launcher back to the center island. The chest is atop the center building; opening it will reward players with their Catalyst. Once in hand, the Catalyst itself is easy to empower. All Guardians will have to do is earn 400 kills with Gjallarhorn across activities, something that shouldn't be any trouble at all.
