Destiny 2's Season of the Lost, featuring the arrival of Savathûn ahead of the next major expansion, introduced players to three new locations in the Shattered Realms. These locations are Weekly Missions that rotate in-game every three weeks. The first area of the Shattered Realms players can visit is the Forest of Echoes. The Debris of Dreams and Ruins of Wrath are second and third in the rotation, respectively. In each of these areas, Guardians search for and free the Awoken Queen Mara Sov's lost Techeuns.
Scattered throughout each Shattered Realm are bonus Trivial, Enigmatic and Ascendant Mysteries. These loot chests involve light puzzle-solving elements. Finding every Mystery is required to complete the Realmwalker Seal's Unsolved Mysteries objective. Ascendant Mysteries are the most advanced. As Guardians advance through each Shattered Realm, they will trigger short events to complete. This article explains how to acquire the two Ascendant Mystery chests in the Forest of Echoes. Doing so will reward Guardians with the Triumphs The Dark Ritual and Born of Darkness.
The Dark Ritual
The first Ascendant Mystery players may complete in the Forest of Echoes is The Dark Ritual. Players must align the first beacon in the Abbey of Whispers to trigger this Ascendant Mystery event. After the beacon is aligned, the line of text "Hive Wizards gather for a ritual at the Shrine" will appear. Take an exit by the aligned beacon and find the nearby True Sight marker. Follow the path it reveals, leading to the island floating a distance away. If players struggle to jump through the Suppression Field to reach this path, an alternate path exists at the top of the hill Guardians had descended to reach the Abbey. This alternate path is technically the exit after players disrupt the ritual and depart from the Shrine.
Three Taken Wizards and a few minor Taken await Guardians at the Shrine. Defeat these enemies and pick up the Relic. Follow the wisp. It leads to the entrance of the nearby Crypt protected by a barrier. Invoke Barrier Breach and head down. The path from this point on is straightforward. The only obstacles are a few Taken Thralls and instances requiring Barrier Breach and True Sight.
Once inside the Crypt, deposit the Relic in the statue's empty outstretched hand. An Apocalyptic Blade will spawn alongside some Taken Psions. The Apocalyptic Blade does not charge, but it will disappear into the environment similar to the behavior of the Fatesmiths in The Shattered Throne dungeon. Taken hordes will also spawn throughout this encounter, providing a small distraction from the giant Knight. Defeat this Knight to complete "The Dark Ritual" Triumph and earn the first Ascendant Mystery in the Forest of Echoes.
Born of Darkness
The second Ascendant Mystery event begins after players align the second beacon in the Forest of Echoes. The line "Blights corrupt the Harrowed Cliffs" will pass along the screen. Players will already be at the Harrowed Cliffs, as that is the location of the second beacon. Find the True Sight marker at the base of a nearby cliff. Ascend this cliff. At the top is a Blight. Destroy it, and more will appear. Follow this path of Blights to the Ruins, destroying each along the way. Hordes of Taken will appear throughout these encounters to protect the Blights.
Once the Ruins are cleared, jump down the well. Destroy the Devoured Ogre within and claim the second Ascendant Mystery. Doing so will reward Guardians with the Triumph Born of Darkness.
