Despite Reports, 'Beetlejuice 2' Isn't 'a Go' After All

Update (10:39 a.m.): A spokesperson for Tim Burton tells MTV News that "Beetlejuice 2" isn't in development, and that the filmmaker didn't even provide a statement to Showbiz Spy. The original story continues below.

It's been six months since Winona Ryder confirmed the long-awaited sequel to "Beetlejuice" isn't merely a pipe dream. While it's certainly understandable if some doubt has since crept into the minds of fans -- after all, there's been talking of a follow-up since 199o -- director Tim Burton assures it's really, really happening.

“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team," the filmmaker told Showbiz Spy. "We have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael [Keaton]. We have the script in hand, everything is in place. All we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”

Of course, when filming will start is another matter. Burton could have room on his schedule following the release in September of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," but he's also attacked to Disney's live-action "Dumbo." And Keaton's dance card has been pretty full since "Birdman."

But, hey, fans have waited 26 years for "Beetlejuice 2." They can probably hold on a little bit longer.
