Last week, director Adam McKay broke the news that Paramount wasn't interested in pursuing a sequel to Anchorman, even with a promised lower budget and the locked-in return of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell in their fan-favorite roles. But it seems that Ron Burgundy isn't the only king of comedy headed to the unemployment line — he'll be joined there by Derek Zoolander.

"Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks," Ben Stiller stated last Friday in an ominous Twitter post.

Stiller previously announced his intentions to make a second Zoolander alongside collaborator Justin Theroux. The movie would feature Derek and his modeling buddy Hansel (Owen Wilson) as forgotten idols of the fashion industry struggling to reclaim their place in the spotlight. Brilliant though the concept may be, Stiller makes it sound as if the Zoolander sequel is in trouble.

Clearly, the most viable option here is to turn Stiller's tweet into reality by forging an Anchorman/Zoolander hybrid crossover sequel. An older Burgundy could conduct a profile piece on a broken Zoolander as a means to jump-starting his own fledgling journalism career in the age of new media. Ferrell has the luxury of fitting in a Mugatu cameo on top of that, adding a little bit of meta goodness to the whole affair.

Perhaps not the most ideal way to get further adventures out of Ron and Derek, but if it brings these two iconic characters back to the big screen, I'm on board. What say you, Spinoff readers?
