Those within the Demon Slayer Corps of Kimetsu no Yaiba are no ordinary people. As their organization's name suggests, those within the corps slay demons; however, slaying a demon is no easy feat. Vigorous training, dedication, and motivation become Tanjiro's everyday values as he fights to find a cure for his sister Nezuko's demon transformation.

Throughout the anime, viewers encounter a variety of breathing techniques that grant the demon slayers the power to overcome their demonic opponent. Through breath and sword techniques, those of the corps strike down demons, but there's more than meets the eye when it comes to these demon slayers.

10 Wisteria Flower Engraving

Tanjiro Kamado marvels at Wisteria plants in Demon Slayer's first season

Members of the Demon Slayer Corps are ranked from lowest to highest as follows: Mizunoto, Mizunoe, Kanoto, Kanoe, Tsuchinoto, Tsuchinoe, Hinoto, Hinoe, Kinoto, Kinoe. When they complete the final selection, those accepted into the Demon Slayer Corps go through a process called wisteria flower engraving, where their rank is inscribed on their hands.

As demon slayers complete missions, they move up in rank. They have the ability to view their rank by saying a password and flexing their arm, but more important matters, such as slaying demons, keep them from agonizing over simple matters, such as ranks.

9 Demon Slayer Mark

That conspicuous scar that graces Tanjiro's forehead is a demon slayer mark. These marks appear on a powerful demon slayer's body in the shape of a scar, birthmark, or tattoo and resemble the mark of a demon's crest. A demon slayer must meet certain conditions to unlock their mark: They must have survived a life-threatening encounter with a heart rate of 200 bpm and a temperature of over 102 degrees F.

Not only does Tanjiro possess a demon slayer mark, but so do select members of the Hashira. So, while those within the Demon Slayer Corps possess this ability, it's not one they can implement on their own.

8 Transparent World

Tanjiro using Sun Breathing in Demon Slayer

Transparent world is an extra-sensory perception technique, otherwise thought of as a sixth sense. Not all slayers possess this ability, and those that do all possess the demon slayer mark. Tanjiro has found himself in a boatload of dire circumstances but does not yet meet the qualifications to activate this incredible ability.

When activated, transparent world allows a user to perceive the flow of movement in their opponent, while also perceiving the world at a faster rate. In this way, a user can almost predict the future movement of their opponent and prepare for a counterstrike.

7 Repetitive Action

Repetitive action is a technique used as a substitute for, or in conjunction with, Total Concentration Breathing. One such demon slayer that relies on repetitive action is Genya Shinazugawa, the other participant alongside Tanjiro and Kanao in the final selection.

Not much is known of Genya other than his rough and tough personality, which makes him and this skill a wild card. While Genya relies on this technique, other demon slayers can use it to their discretion, although viewers remain unaware of this particular skill set.

6 Consuming Demons

Once again, the spotlight is on Genya Shinazugawa as the odd one out when it comes to demon slayers. Not only does he rely on repetitive action, but he consumes the flesh of demons. That's right, the tables have turned. Once consuming the flesh, Genya gains demonic attributes, and the higher-ranked the demon, the more destructive he becomes.

The power he gains is only temporary, but Genya is not the only demon slayer with this ability. Since Genya doesn't get his fair share of screen time, his skill is not mentioned, but it is one to keep in mind when it comes to unique demon slayers.

5 Tsuguko

Kanao Tsuyuri fights Tanjiro in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

A Tsuguko is an apprentice and eventual successor of a member of the Hashira. The only Tsuguko thus far is Kanao Tsuyuri. A few requirements are needed before a demon slayer is considered for a Tsukugo position. For starters, a demon slayer either applies for the position, or they are scouted by a current Hashira member. Neither one occurs within the anime but is an option within the Demon Slayer Corps.

Tsuguko's typically possess the same breathing technique as their Hashira counterpart, although that's not always the case. The ultimate purpose of this position is to cultivate a demon slayer who will one day fill the role of a Hashira.

4 Hashira

Demon Slayer Hashira

The Hashira amount to nine extraordinary swordmasters who serve as top-ranking elite demon slayers within the corps. One way to become a Hashiro is through becoming a Tsuguko. Otherwise, a demon slayer must illustrate their efforts and swordsmanship by disposing of either 50+ demons or a member of the Twelve Kizuki.

What viewers don't know is that Hashira holds their own version of training, which involves lower-ranked demon slayers. All Hashira must participate in each other's training. Tanjiro is all about leveling-up, so why wouldn't he push for an Hashira's insane form of training?

3 Beast Breathing

As is known, Inosuke is a beast through and through, therefore it's no surprise that he'd specialize in beast breathing techniques. There are eleven fang forms for this breathing style.

Inosuke utilizes two forms in the anime, but most of them fall along the lines of instinct and chucking his swords at an opponent. He's definitely a beast that's true to form, and one that believes he's the strongest, no matter the opponent he's up against. With his forms building upon each other in their level of destruction, Inosuke relies on instinct more so than his offensive techniques.

2 Thunder Breathing

Zenitsu, unconcious and ready to fight in Demon Slayer.

Zenitsu is more than just a coward. When he gets in the zone, Zenitsu is like the calm before a storm, which suits his breathing style.

Thunder Breathing has seven known forms; however, Zenitsu is only capable of activating the first form. As he gains experience, Zenitsu perfects the first form, but what about the other six? He has the ability to bring out the other forms, but it's hard to say if they'll ever manifest with his anxiety-ridden attitude.

1 Dance Of The Fire God

Tanjiro versus Rui in Demon Slayer

The Dance of the Fire God is one that is passed down in the Kamado family from father to son and is said to be the original breath from which all other breathing styles are born. Although, that is a theory based upon clues and hints from the anime and analyzed in the Demon Slayer fandom.

This technique is comprised of ten forms, and from those, Tanjiro only activates one while desperately fighting against one of Muzan's Twelve Kizuki. Tanjiro's abilities lead him to act on instinct, but in reality, he only has the knowledge of water breathing techniques. It's a mystery as to how Tanjiro will continue to learn of his family's history and its connections to the Dance of the Fire God.
