Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist of Demon Slayer. He starts off as an ordinary boy until his family is killed by Muzan. The only other survivor is his sister Nezuko, who turns into a demon. He becomes a Demon Slayer in order to protect others and to find a cure for his sister.
His experiences shape him into being one of the best swordsmen of his generation. Despite the sorrows that he faces, Tanjiro is a great character because he can still manage to be so kind and caring to both humans and demons alike, as he can relate to their tragic circumstances. Unfortunately, Tanjiro does have some noticeable flaws that make him unlikeable at times.
10 Fans See The Past Through Tanjiro For No Reason At All
For the longest time, fans assumed that Tanjiro was related to Yoriichi Tsugikuni in some way. This was quickly proven to be false through visions that Tanjiro saw of the past. He got to know more about Yoriichi and his technique through these visions, obtaining memories from his ancestor, Sumiyoshi, while he is in a coma. This ability is really odd, and not very well explained. It would have been better as a flashback, as it makes Tanjiro seem inhuman.
9 Tanjiro Is A Human Bloodhound
Despite being a human, Tanjiro has an incredible sense of smell. It allows him to detect different species from long distances, sense the emotions of others, and find a gap in his opponent's defenses.
He can even use his smell to predict how his opponent will move. In a series that is focused on how humans can find the strength and determination to defeat demons, it doesn't make sense for Tanjiro to be able to smell the future.
8 He Conquers The Sun Immediately
When Muzan realizes that he is about to lose to the Demon Slayers, he transforms Tanjiro into a demon as a last-ditch effort. He tries to manipulate Tanjiro into killing off any survivors in the Demon Slayers Corps, and into conquering the sun. Tanjiro manages to conquer the sun at a breakneck speed, which no other demon had ever managed to do before. Being related to Nezuko didn't mean that he was guaranteed to conquer the sun, and only made Tanjiro seem overpowered.
7 He Sticks His Nose In Other People's Business
Tanjiro isn't able to keep his thoughts to himself, can't stand to watch any sort of injustice, and will quickly step in even if no demons are involved. He gets himself tangled up in Sanemi and Genya Shinazugawa's familial dispute, which neither brother appreciated.
This also shows that he doesn't participate in the Demon Slayer Corps hierarchy in the same way that the other members do.
6 He Improves Insanely Quickly
After a mere two years of rigorous training, Tanjiro is able to participate in the Final Selection. He somehow manages to kill a demon that killed thirteen of Sankonji Urokodaki's students and fifty other aspiring Demon Slayers and continues to power up immensely after each battle, to the point where he was strong enough to be a Hashira himself. Meanwhile, many other Slayers are not nearly as strong as him despite having more time to train and similar motivations.
5 He Rushes Towards Muzan And Threatens Him
When Tanjiro first senses Muzan, he does the worst thing he can possibly do in his situation. He confronts him face to face, never considering the danger to him and the people around him. Thanks to his carelessness, Muzan injures and turns a passerby into a demon. This not only allows Muzan to get away, but it paints a target on Tanjiro's back, which only grows bigger once Tanjiro starts yelling threats at him.
4 He Is Kind Even To Those Who Killed His Friends
No matter who he is fighting, with the exception of Muzan, Tanjiro is kind to all of his enemies after he defeats them. Nearly every demon that he fights seems to have some kind of tragic backstory and their power was forced onto them. He offers comfort even to those who have killed his friends, such as the Hand Demon, who wouldn't be so easily forgiven by the dozens of people that he killed.
3 He Doesn't Take Care Of His Swords Or Himself
Hotaru Haganezuka, Tanjiro's primary swordsmith, is most irritated by the state of Tanjiro's swords. Although most characters disagree, his feelings are completely justified. Tanjiro breaks his blade in his battle against Rui, throws his sword at Akaza and lost it, chips another sword, and uses an incomplete sword. Tanjiro takes even less care of himself, not hesitating to fight a demon even with broken ribs.
2 His Forehead Can Somehow Hurt Demons
Tanjiro already has some strange and unexplained superpowers, and his rock-hard forehead is yet another one on his list. His forehead is hard enough to stun, injure, or even knock out an opponent with no damage to himself. Tanjiro has used his signature headbutt against many demons, and they all felt some sort of pain from it. This just makes Tanjiro look even more overpowered, considering the fact that demons can break bones effortlessly.
1 He Loses His Advantage Against Akaza
Although Tanjiro was able to erase his presence, he threw away his advantage. Immediately after Akaza told Giyu that Tanjiro was dead, Tanjiro called out to Akaza. He demanded that he fight him, opting out of using the element of surprise. Thanks to this, he needlessly extended the time of his battle and received more injuries than necessary despite knowing that he had to fight Muzan later.
