Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer is a swordsman who has dedicated his life to finding a cure for his sister, Nezuko, and destroying any demons who want to eat humans. Spider-Man, also known as Peter Parker, is a high school student who gained spider-like abilities, and he uses these powers to fight crime.

As heroes, these two characters share a fair number of things in common. Their values are similar, but they live in two completely different worlds, with Tanjiro's being darker and more bloody than Peter's. Their unique circumstances make it impossible for them to be completely alike.

10 Same: They Stay Optimistic Despite The Tragedies They Experience

Tanjiro from Demon Slayer smiles

Both characters have experienced their share of tragedies. Peter lost his Uncle Ben, while Tanjiro lost his mother and siblings with the exception of Nezuko. However, the two characters manage to stay cheerful and optimistic, offering a smile to those who need it. They take time to crack jokes because they know how important it is for them not to lose track of what makes them human.

9 Different: Tanjiro Isn't Super-Powered

Tanjiro doesn't have Spider-Man's superpowers. Spider-Man received powers from a bite from a radioactive spider, making him nimble, giving him a spidey-sense, and giving him additional superhuman strength.

Tanjiro may be a talented swordsman with a great sense of smell, but he has no superpowers to speak of. The closest thing he has are his powerful headbutts, but those can only hurt a demon, not defeat them.

8 Same: They Are Both Heroes

Spider-man lookin' cool

Both Tanjiro and Peter are heroes who just want to help other people. They don't really ask for anything in return, but their main goal is to keep people from experiencing the same pain that they did. They dive into danger without thinking, as their first instinct is to protect people, whether they know them or not. This makes both characters admirable people.

7 Different: Tanjiro Has Nothing To Hide

Tanjiro ready for a strike with his sword

Tanjiro has no secret identity to speak of. He is perfectly fine with letting both humans and demons know exactly who he is. It would have been impossible to keep his identity a secret, as many of the Hashira and demons would have unmasked him easily. Peter Parker is desperate to keep his identity a secret from the general public, as he doesn't like the fame and danger that comes with it.

6 Same: They Have Strict Mentors And Are Part Of A Bigger Group

Both Peter and Tanjiro have strict but caring mentors who want to see them succeed. They are hard on their pupils because one wrong move can lead to an even bigger problem or a tragedy.

The heroes are also part of larger groups with other heroes who share a common goal to defeat villains. This allows them to seek advice from other sources rather than just from their mentors.

5 Different: Spider-Man Tampers With The Multiverse

Spider-Man activates his spider legs

Spider-Man: No Way Home has Peter tampering with the Multiverse in his attempt to continue living two different lives. Tanjiro would never do something like this because he doesn't have a secret identity. Muzan sends demons after him throughout the series, but he never once removes his hanafuda earrings, even though they give away his identity.

4 Same: They Don't Want To Take Human Lives

Both characters have killed villains before, but these kills include Thanos' alien army and demons. These threats could not be ignored or reasoned with, so these characters had no choice but to kill them. However, they do everything they can to avoid hurting humans. When Tanjiro is injured by a human, he makes no move to get revenge. Spider-Man seems to value human life just as much, whether it belongs to a hero, civilian, or villain.

3 Different: Spider-Man Always Has A Love Interest

Peter hugs MJ

Much of the time that Spider-Man spends on-screen is with a love interest. He has had two so far, and despite his hero work, he tried his best to make his relationships work. Tanjiro never really focused on romance, especially since he was too wrapped up in trying to find a cure for his sister. He was always far too busy to find romance and had little time to himself in the manga even after Muzan was defeated.

2 Same: They Both Get Equipment Upgrades

Peter in his old suit

Both Tanjiro and Peter start off with lackluster equipment. Tanjiro uses an ordinary hatchet, which isn't even effective on demons, and Peter had a suit that looked rather amateurish. Tanjiro eventually got his own demon-slaying sword, and later, Yoriichi's sword. Peter gets upgraded suits from Tony Stark, which, unlike his old suit, had an instant kill mode and was able to let him survive in space.

1 Different: Tanjiro Is Surrounded By Equally Powerful Friends

Zenitsu protects his food as Inosuke steals Tanjiro's

Spider-Man's best friends are completely human, so they are not nearly as strong as he is. Tanjiro's friends, on the other hand, are about as strong as Tanjiro himself, to the point where they can fight alongside him as equals. Although they can sometimes be competitive with Tanjiro, they don't get in each other's way and have saved each other on more than one occasion.
