Studio Ufotable confirmed that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is returning for a third season with the release of an official announcement teaser trailer.The upcoming season of the popular anime will adapt the "Swordsmith Village" arc which runs from chapters 100 to 127 of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga. The new arc centers around main character Tanjiro Kamado traveling to the famous Swordsmith Village to replace his sword due to the Demon Slayer Corps' swordsmith, Hotaru Haganezuka, becoming tired of fixing it. The news of Season 3 comes hot on the heels of the ending of Season 2, which aired its last episode on Feb. 13.RELATED: Demon Slayer Unveils Pricey, Life-Sized Replicas of Tengen's Nichirin Cleavers

The announcement teaser also features two new pieces of key visual art depicting Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, who will both be major players in the upcoming arc after only having minor roles in the story prior. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba's core cast will also return, with Nezuko Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibara all joining Tanjiro as he journeys to the Swordsmith Village.

Set in Taisho-era Japan, the world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is plagued by demons, dangerous former humans who have given up their humanity to obtain supernatural powers such as super strength, magic and regeneration. 13-year-old Tanjiro Kamado's life is changed forever when his entire family is slaughtered by one of these creatures, save for his younger sister Nezuko who survives the attack by being transformed into a demon herself. The series centers around the pair of siblings as Tanjiro enlists into the Demon Slayer Survey Corps to find a way to turn Nezuko into a human again, while hunting down the demon responsible for the attack on his family.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has been incredibly popular since the manga began its serialization in February 2016 due to its compelling story and characters, intricate world and stellar action scenes. It is the eighth best-selling manga series of all time with its 150 million+ copies in circulation, and the franchise brought in around 1 trillion yen in annual sales revenue in 2020. The first season of its anime adaptation was named "Anime of the Year" at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival in 2020, and its direct sequel film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, was the highest-grossing movie of 2020, grossing over $503 million at the worldwide box office. The most recent season of the anime adapting the manga's "Entertainment District" arc has also received widespread acclaim.

A premiere date for Season 3 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has yet to be confirmed. Every season of the show can be streamed now on Funimation, Hulu and Crunchyroll, along with the film.
