Gyutaro has made his anime debut in the latest opening sequence for Demon Slayer.Still images from the opening were posted online by Twitter user @gyutarodaily, allowing fans to get a better look at the character's appearance within the anime. The cruel demon and member of the Twelve Kizuki was notably absent from any of the pre-release trailers and promotional artwork for Demon Slayer's second season, but Daki's brother was finally animated in a brief appearance in the show's new opening title sequence, where his warped appearance can be glimpsed battling one of the arc's main heroes, the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui.
Gyutaro is a petty and jealous demon who happens to be one of the Twelve Kizuki, a group of especially powerful demons who directly serve Muzan Kibutsuji, the original demon who is responsible for the creation of all other demons. Gyutaro's clash with the Demon Slayer Corps. is generally considered one of the highlights of Koyoharu Gotouge's original manga, and anticipation for the animated version of their battle has been high ever since Season 2 was revealed to be focusing on the Entertainment District arc.
The new opening sequence is set to "Zankyou Sanka," the funky new opening theme song by Japanese singer Aimer. The song is the first theme for the anime series to not be sung by pop star LiSA, who provided the theme songs for the anime's complete first season and Season 2's previous Mugen Train arc. The anime's original theme song, "Gurenge," became a mainstream hit, receiving a Platinum certification from the RIAJ, the Japanese equivalent of the United States' RIAA. The composer of the song revealed that the royalties she earned off of the song were enough to make her a millionaire.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba was originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. The series tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a kind and dedicated young man who takes up the sword after most of his family is murdered by a demon. The manga is the latest series to break into the top ten best-selling manga series of all time, with over 150 million copies in circulation worldwide. The manga published its final chapter this past May, and despite ending early in the year, the series was still overall the second best-selling manga of 2021 with 29.5 million copies sold, coming in just under Jujutsu Kaisen's 30 million. The anime adaptation of the series is currently streaming on both Funimation and Crunchyroll, with both services simulcasting new episodes of the second season as they air in Japan.
