However, with its thrilling characters and gorgeous music come some of the most emotional scenes in the early parts of the franchise (there are still more seasons of the anime). Now that the film has been released outside of Japan, it's time to look back on the most emotional moments of the film.

10 Rengoku's Mother Tells Him She's Proud Of Him

In his final moments, Rengoku finds peace as he sees a vision of his mother. While it was revealed earlier in the film that his father had negative feelings about him becoming a Flame Hashira, Rengoku's mother is undoubtedly kind and confident in her eldest son, telling him that his strength is a gift that must be used only to help others. In the end, Rengoku hears his mother tell him how proud she is of him, and he smiles. The scene is palpably heart-wrenching.

9 Enmu's Minion Encountering Tanjiro's Soul

Enmu's plan is to put all of the train passengers to sleep so that his minions (regular people he has bribed to do his bidding) can enter their subconsciouses and puncture their spiritual core, killing them. The sickly boy who is tasked with entering Tanjiro's subconscious is so overcome with emotion when he realizes how warm, calm and beautiful Tanjiro's soul is, that he ultimately chooses to not go through with what his master wants. The scene is beautiful as Tanjiro's pure goodness changes this desperate boy.

8 Tanjiro's Dream Showing His Heart's Desire

When Enmu has most of the train put to sleep, Tanjiro's dream is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. He dreams that he is back home on the mountain with his mother and siblings who are no longer alive. Within the dream, Tanjiro still remembers his and Nezuko's lives as Demon Slayers so he knows that something isn't quite right, but Tanjiro allowing himself to believe they're real is almost as emotional as the reality of Enmu's fabricated dream coming to an end.

7 Rengoku's Dream Of His Father

Shinjuro lays around

What gives Kyojuro Rengoku's dream a slight edge over Tanjiro's is the fact that viewers are being introduced to Rengoku's past and his life before meeting Tanjiro, and peeking in on this slice of Rengoku's past reveals a sad memory.

In the dream, Rengoku has just earned the ranking of Flame Hashira - as his father Shinjuro did before him - but when he tells the news to his father, his reaction is one of dismissal as he tells his son that being a Hashira is worthless.

6 Tanjiro Committing Suicide Over & Over Again

After a vision from his father, Tanjiro comes to the realization that, in order to escape his dream, he must use his own sword to kill himself to wake up and fight Enmu. Miraculously, it works and Tanjiro is able to take on Enmu, but the powerful demon keeps putting him back to sleep but only for a moment. It takes a minute for Enmu to realize that Tanjiro is continuously committing suicide in order to fight Enmu, making yet another emotional scene.

5 The Nightmare Enmu Inflicts Upon Tanjiro

When Enmu realizes just how indomitable Tanjiro's will is after Tanjiro continuously kills himself in order to escape the dreams Enmu puts him in, Enmu pulls out all the stops, putting Tanjiro into a literal nightmare. Whereas Tanjiro's previous dreams had his family alive and happy, this nightmare finds their home and selves in ruin as grisly specters meant to bludgeon Tanjiro with guilt, blaming him for their deaths.

4 Tanjiro Defending His Family's Memory

Tanjiro defends his family's legacy and memory in Demon Slayer Mugen Train

Upping the ante, Mugen Train took an already affecting scene (Enmu putting Tanjiro into a nightmare in order to break him) and turned it up. As Tanjiro was subjected to abuse from his family, fury takes over and he is able to break free. The nightmare fueled Tanjiro to escape and yell, "There's no way they'd ever say that! Not ever! Not my family!" Tanjiro's ferocity in defending this insult against his family leaves Enmu vulnerable and Tanjiro takes what should be the final blow.

3 Tanjiro Calling On His Father To Help Him Do The Hinokami Kagura Clear Blue Sky

While Tanjiro's incredible battle against Enmu should have been the end, the demon had some tricks up his sleeve and had become fused with the train. Because of this, Tanjiro and Inosuke needed to work together to find the location on the train/body where he could be killed.

While Tanjiro mostly uses Water Breathing style at this point, he calls on the spirit of his father to protect him so he can use Hinokami Kagura Clear Blue Sky to make the actual final blow against Enmu.

2 Tanjiro Calling Asaka A Coward

In the aftermath of Rengoku and Asaka's battle, the sun is quickly rising and the demon needs to make his escape to shelter, as the sun is deadly to demons. Overcome with grief and anger, Tanjiro chases after the demon as it tries to disappear into the woods and pierces Asaka's body with his Nichirin sword after a powerful throw (considering Tanjiro's injuries). The high emotions from this scene bleed through to the end of the film as Tanjiro cries and vents his heart out.

1 Rengoku's Death

In the film's second climax, Rengoku and Asaka's battle proves itself to be one of the most epic of the entire Demon Slayer series (so far) as viewers get to see a Hashira give his all against a high-ranking Kizuki. At first, it seems like the incredibly strong Rengoku will triumph against Akaza, but the demon's regeneration is an impossible advantage and it becomes clear that Rengoku will lose. And indeed he does, leaving not a dry eye in the vicinity.
