The latest Demon Slayer figure is equally adept at cutting down demons and bank account balances.
The new Tanjiro Kamado statue comes from collectible manufacturer Good Smile Company and depicts the young swordsman unleashing the mysterious Hinokami Kagura. While other statues of Tanjiro using this unique ability have been released before, the new Good Smile release ups the ante by also recreating the setting of the hero's battle with the Twelve Kizuki demon Rui. The new statue is more diorama than figure, and includes accurate recreations of the dark forests of Mount Natagumo and Rui's deadly thread-based Blood Art. The radiance of Hinokami Kagura is also recreated using built-in pulsing LED lights. The moon in the background can also be backlit to further recreate the ambiance of the setting. All these extra details come at a cost though: the new Tanjiro figure will set collectors back $750.99 USD. Preorders for the figure opened on March 4 and will close on Aug. 31. The statue is expected to ship next December.
The statue recreates the climax of Tanjiro's first duel with a current member of the Twelve Kizuki, the spider-like Rui. The fight is notable for awakening Tanjiro's most important unique ability, the Hinokami Kagura, which was taught to him by his father sometime before the start of the series. The mysterious technique gives Tanjiro access to a second Breathing Style that would later become a key tool in his battle against the demons and his quest for revenge against Muzan Kibutsuji, the demonic leader who killed most of his family.
Tanjiro made extensive use of the ability in the anime's second season, which concluded its broadcast run in February. The majority of the season was an adaptation of the fan-favorite Entertainment District arc, which sees the series' central trio of swordsmen and Nezuko team up with the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. The demon slayers soon find themselves facing down not just one, but two members of the Twelve Kizuki. The anime adaptation of the arc was extremely well received, with much of the praise being directed at studio Ufotable for its feature-quality animation and intricate fight choreography.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba was originally created by Kotoharu Gotouge in 2016. The manga wrapped up in 2020 and the complete series is now available in English from VIZ Media. The first two seasons of the anime are now available for streaming from Crunchyroll and Hulu. A third season, which will adapt the Swordsmith Village arc, has been confirmed to be in production but currently has no premiere date.
