Demon Slayer is an anime that's becoming known for its action-packed fight scenes, and having a cast of characters with impressive combat abilities is part of the reason it's able to include so many battle sequences. Of the new Demon Slayer Corp. members, Inosuke is one of the most impressive. He's always raring for a fight, and by basing his moves on pure instinct, he often comes out on top.

But while Inosuke does have spunk — and a knack for wielding two swords at once — he's still got training to do before he reaches the skill level of the more experienced Demon Slayer Corp. members. He's already proven himself inferior in battle compared to Giyu and Tanjiro, and he's also failed to kill some of the more powerful demons introduced over the course of the series. Here are 5 characters from Demon Slayer that Inosuke can defeat (& 5 that he can't).

10 Can Beat: Zenitsu

Zenitsu from Demon Slayer holding one side of his face.

Of the three main demon slayers we follow during the anime's first season, Zenitsu is probably the weakest. That's not to say that he can't hold his own in a fight — as long as he manages to fall asleep, he's good — but he tends to cower away from fighting whenever possible.

And even when Zenitsu does engage in battle, it seems like his skills are somewhat inferior to Inosuke's. When the latter attacks him during his attempt to get to Nezuko, Zenitsu takes quite a beating. Though this might be due to his refusal to fight back, we'd assume Inosuke can defeat Zenitsu based on sheer willpower alone. There's something to be said for Inosuke's brand of determination.

9 Can't Beat: Tanjiro

One of the reasons Inosuke respects Tanjiro so much is because the other boy often demonstrates more skill on the battlefield than he does. This likely has something to do with their fighting styles. While Inosuke fights purely on instinct, Tanjiro has a tendency to strategize — something that enables him to come out on top more often than not.

Both ways of battling demons come in handy, but Inosuke does reflect on the fact that Tanjiro's always thinking. And while he frames this as a bad thing, it's clear that Tanjiro's wit is a necessity when it comes to outmaneuvering stronger demons. Inosuke would do well to learn from him.

8 Can Beat: Nezuko

Nezuko has demonstrated her strength repeatedly during the first season of Demon Slayer, but compared to some of the other demons we meet, she's actually fairly average when it comes to combat. She mostly gets by on surprise attacks, striking when enemies are preoccupied with Tanjiro and don't see her coming.

Although Nezuko has speed and strength, Inosuke also can boast of those abilities — and given that he's trained in the art of killing demons, we believe he would win a fight against Nezuko. Thankfully, Tanjiro prevents the two from facing off at all.

7 Can't Beat: Giyu

Giyu standing by a tree with arms folded

To know who would win in a fight between Inosuke and Giyu, one only needs to watch the later episodes of Demon Slayer's first season. When the two of them meet, Giyu quickly dispatches a demon that Inosuke is seriously struggling to defeat. Then he even immoboiizes Inosuke, scolding the recruit for fighting after doing so much damage to his body.

And while you could argue that Inosuke was too injured to stop Giyu from tying him to a tree during that scene, it's also clear that Giyu is capable of defeating demons that Inosuke and Tanjiro can barely hold their own against. He's leagues ahead of them when it comes to fighting techniques, and so, he'd certainly win in a fight.

6 Can Beat: Murata

Inosuke_Murata

The Hashira might be some of the most powerful demon slayers out there, but we've also met plenty of demon slayers who just aren't as skilled when it comes to disposing of powerful demons. Rui and his family manage to capture and kill a whole group of demon slayers with moderate combat skills, and Murata was among those who became prey for the spider demon and his family.

Murata might have survived Natagumo Mountain, but that's mostly due to Tanjiro and Inosuke. It's unlikely Murata would have even defeated one of the spider demons wreaking havoc on the place, and that means he probably wouldn't win against either of the two recruits who did manage to.

5 Can't Beat: Shinobu

If Inosuke can't hold his own against Giyu, it's unlikely he'd be able to do much damage against Shinobu either. After all, she's proven that she can keep up with Giyu — and potentially even outmaneuver him — meaning she's equally as strong, and thus, probably more powerful than Inosuke.

When it comes down to it, Inosuke and his companions wouldn't stand a chance against most of the Hashira. They've got far more training to do before they reach the level of the Demon Slayer Corp.'s strongest members.

4 Can Beat: Kyogai

Kyogai from Demon Slayer.

Kyogai is the demon responsible for the Drum House, where Inosuke's character is first introduced. He, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu all find themselves inside of the demon's constantly moving “home,” and they eventually manage to defeat him.

It's true that Tanjiro is the one who ultimately kills Kyogai, but Inosuke seemed to be doing a good job of keeping the Drum House’s threats at bay before the other two demon slayers arrived. That said, it seems likely he would have eventually destroyed Kyogai. (But since he doesn’t have Tanjiro’s affinity for strategy, it might have taken a little longer...)

3 Can't Beat: Father Spider Demon

After Rui, the Father Spider Demon is probably the strongest villain we meet during the Natagumo Mountain arc, evidenced by the ease with which he gets rid of Tanjiro and Inosuke. Not only does he quite literally fling Tanjiro to a different part of the forest, but he wears Inosuke down to nothing in battle. (To be fair, the demon slayer's injuries were pretty terrible when they first encountered one another.)

It's hard to say whether Inosuke could take the Father Spider Demon if he were uninjured and at full strength, but from what we've seen, he's unable to defeat a demon at this level. Giyu, on the other hand, manages to dispatch him with ease.

2 Can Beat: Mother Spider Demon

Demon Slayer- The Mother Spider Demon Using Her Webs To Control Others Like Puppets

Although the two don’t fare so well against the Father Spider Demon, Tanjiro and Inosuke do manage to take down Rui’s mother. She’s the first villain they meet on Natagumo Mountain, and through their combat skills and Tanjiro’s wit, they escape her traps and manage to find and kill her.

It is questionable whether Inosuke could have defeated the Mother Spider Demon on his own, given that he doesn’t typically come up with plans like the one he and Tanjiro hatch. But given that Tanjiro needed him to put his plan into action, we’d say he at least stands a chance against the Mother Spider Demon.

1 Can't Beat: Kibutsuji

OK, to be fair, there aren't many demon slayers that can currently defeat Kibutsuji in a fight. He is the original demon after all, and his strength and influence would easily overwhelm someone so new to the Demon Slayer Corp. Not only can Kibutsuji create new pawns on a whim, but he’s proven himself physically powerful all on his own.

In fact, it’s questionable whether any of the Hashira would even be able to defeat the Big Bad of Demon Slayer. And that’s how you know Inosuke definitely wouldn’t stand a chance.
