Foreshadowing is the manga-ka's, like other media, way of dangling that little piece of information hinting at the future in the reader's face, just intriguing enough to keep the reader interested and wanting more. It can be as subtle as being hit upside the head by Mjolnir, or the hint can go entirely unnoticed by the reader until the grand reveal, making the reader swell up with excitement as they start to put each piece of the puzzle together, so they can stand back to see the image that is created.

Koyoharu Gotōge's manga Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is no stranger to this storytelling tactic, weaving clues into his story, he connects each string so the reader can see the tapestry at the end. Here are Demon Slayer's 10 best ways the manga foreshadowed the grand finale.

10 Tanjiro Meets Giyū

After Nezuko is transformed into a demon, she attacks Tanjiro. Giyū is passing through and notices the struggle between the siblings. He stops them from killing one another but is surprised at their commitment to protecting each other.

He accepts their bond. This action foreshadowed how the rest of the demon slayer core reacted to them. Many did not trust the siblings, some even so far as to attack them, but it was their bond to one another that caused the Demon Slayers to trust them.

9 Tanjiro's First Demon

Temple Demon attacking Tanjiro in Demon Slayer

While Tanjiro and Nezuko are searching for Tanjiro's first swordmaster, they stumble upon a demon. The demon then proceeds to attack them. This is the first instance in the story that a demon's strength and abilities are presented.

It is not until Tanjiro is able to pin the demon to a tree that the ultimate weakness is also shown. The sun rises and incinerates their enemy. The sun is the only absolute way to destroy a demon, foreshadowing the only sure-fire way to destroy Muzan, the first and creator of all demons.

8 Tanjiro Meets Muzan

Tanjiro is sent to investigate a demon in Asakusa. While there he comes upon the sent of the demon that attacked his family and was responsible for turning Nezuko in a demon.

When he approaches the man that cares the sent, he finds out that it is none other than Muzan himself. This meeting is one of the more on the nose, foreshadowings. It is to establish the main antagonist while also providing motivation to Tanjiro and setting up a final clash between the two.

7 Nezuko's Blood Technique

Nezuko has a demon blood technique that allows her to set her blood on fire. When her blood ignites, she can control whether it destroys her target or if it heals them. This can only affect demons and foreshadows Nezuko becoming the first demon to be able to step into the sun.

She gains this power when fighting the spider family early on in the manga. Becoming a demon can be seen as sickness and sunlight as an ailment of that sickness. If Nezuko's blood can burn away the blood and techniques of other demons, then it foreshadowed that her blood could burn away the effects of the sun on a demon's body.

6 Lower Moon's Destruction

The act of Muzan destroying the Lower Moon's foreshadowed the pacing of the manga. The Twelve Moon's are the strongest demons that Muzan created, and they are divided into two groups, the stronger six Upper Moons and the weaker six Lower Moons.

For a battle shounen like Demon Slayer, the character's growth is indicated by defeating stronger and stronger opponents. That is why, when Muzan destroyed the Lower Moons, the pacing of the story changed. It removed opticals for the main characters to defeat, in turn speeding up the story.

5 Demons Like Nezuko

The demon Tamayo from Demon Slayer.

Tamayo was a demon that had assimilated into human society, living in Asakusa. She found a way to live her life amongst humans without the need for feeding on them. Tanjiro and Nezuko meet her on one of their missions.

He then asks if there is a way to turn demons back into humans. Being a skilled doctor, she states that there is a possibility, but she needs Nezuko's blood along with the blood of strong demons. Meeting her points out that there will be a cure, and motivates the cast to fight stronger and stronger opponents.

4 Spider Family

Rui the Demon using webs in Demon Slayer.

The Spider Family was a group of four demons that had been brought together by Rui the Lower Rank 6. He desired a family, but his idea of one was warped and twisted. He believed that fear should be the determining factor of bringing a family together rather than love.

But as each member was defeated, it is shown that they all had more complexity to them. Rui is the best example of a demon being more than just an evil individual. He tried to recreate a family that he had lost and wanted to feel the same way as he did when he was human. Rui and the Spider Family presented a hint, that the villains would have far more complexity to them than just being evil.

3 Death of Kyojuro

Kyojuro Rengoku was formally the Flame Pillar, one of the strongest Demon Slayers. Kyojuro was set up to be the next teacher of Tanjiro but he was defeated by the Akaza, The Upper rank 3. His death halted any possibility of there being a story arc to develop his relationship with Tanjiro.

What it did do is foreshadow the fact that there would be a Game of Thrones-like atmosphere, where no character was safe from a visit from the Grim Reaper and setting up that even fan favorites might not make it to see the end of the story.

2 Puppet Surrendering Sword

Yoriichi Tsugikuni in Demon Slayer

Yoriichi Type Zero was a puppet used for training members of the Demon Slayers in the Swordsmith Village. It was created to emulate the movements of Yoriichi Tsugikuni the Breath of Sun user and the creator of all Breathing Techniques.

Tanjiro used it to train and as he was doing so, he destroyed the puppet and revealed a sword inside. This was shown to be Yoriichi's own sword and foreshadows the bond he has, to the creator of all Breath Techniques. Finding the sword correlates with memories from an ancestor that Tanjiro experienced. The sword provided a heavy-handed connection to Yoriichi Tsugikuni.

1 Tanjiro's Scar

Tojiro had a scar on his forehead that he gained when he protected his younger brother from a falling brazer.  It looked like a normal scar until he fought the Hand Demon during the selection to become a Demon Slayer and there started to be a flame-like mark appear.

This foreshadowed the Demon Slayer Mark, a power-up that increases physical abilities, grants the user the ability to see the Transparent World (an ability that grants the user x-ray vision in seeing the human body), and turning their swords into Crimson Red Nichirin Blades granting them even more power to cut demons. It anticipated the next evolution in the Demon Slayer's abilities, while also unlocking a key aspect of worldbuilding.
