20th Century Fox has deleted a scene from The Predator after discovering it features a registered sex offender.

According to the Los Angeles Times, actress Olivia Munn informed the studio about actor Steven Wilder Striegel's history. In 2010, Striegel pleaded guilty to allegations of trying to persuade a 14-year-old girl online into a sexual relationship, and was sentenced to six months in jail.

A spokesperson from 20th Century Fox says the studio was "not aware of Mr. Striegel's background when he was hired."

The news was no surprise to The Predator director Shane Black. "I personally chose to help a friend." Black said in a statement. "I can understand others might disapprove, as his conviction was on a sensitive charge and not to be taken lightly." Black further defended his decision by saying the actor was “caught up in a bad situation versus something lecherous.”

Black cast Striegel for one scene in The Predator. He reportedly played a jogger who "repeatedly hits on Munn's character." This scene has been removed from the theatrical cut of The Predator. Munn stated it was "both surprising and unsettling" that Black did not disclose this information. She went on to say that she's "relieved that when Fox finally did receive the information, the studio took appropriate action by deleting the scene."

Striegel also appeared in Black's Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys.

Directed by Shane Black from a script he wrote with Fred Dekker, The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Jane Thomas, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski. The film arrives in theaters on September 14.
