Following news that "Pacific Rim 2"  had been removed from Universal's calendar, director Guillermo del Toro announced some traction on the sequel's progress via Twitter.

"PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling," he wrote.

Last month, Universal announced it had removed "Pacific Rim 2" from its calendar, sparking fear among fans that it was dead in the water. The statement cited the creative team’s “efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film” as a reason for the delay. Now, it seems as though there's been some motion on the creative team's part to push the sequel along.

The 2013 sci-fi action film, depicting a near-future war between humanity and giant monsters emerging from an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific, grossed $411 million worldwide. Originally scheduled for release on Aug. 4 2017, “Pacific Rim 2″ will be set a few years after the original, and focus more on the kaiju.
