Recently announced with an instantly memorable trailerDefinitely Not Fried Chicken is an upcoming management simulation game that has players opening and running a business -- with a twist. On the surface, players open a restaurant, laundromat or other business, but behind the scenes, they have a thriving drug empire. Developed by the perfectly named Dope Games and published by Merge Games, this upcoming sim is one to keep an eye on.

There are plenty of games where players run businesses or even sell drugs to get by, but Definitely Not Fried Chicken seems to be the first to combine both ventures and allow players to become achicken merchant by day, ruthless drug kingpin by night. Essentially, players can become Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), the iconic villain in Breaking Bad whose laundromat and Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant chain were covers for his methamphetamine operation.

The game is much more lighthearted and satirical than the somber tone of Breaking Bad. Definitely Not Fried Chicken is a colorful affair, with charming block characters and graphics that bring to mind more tongue-in-cheek style sim games like The Sims and Two Point Hospital.

Described on the Steam page as "a business management sim with a twist," Definitely Not Fried Chicken will have players grow legitimate businesses and balance daily operations while simultaneously growing and developing more illegal substances behind closed doors. Definitely Not Fried Chicken asks the player to "Acquire new 'businesses,' meet new clientele, develop more potent narcotics, make lots of money and leave a city in ruin!"

Clearly intended to be a mature title despite its satirical tone, DNFC is set in the '80s and will allow players to own businesses like the aforementioned chicken restaurant and a laundromat. Players will plan out the layout and build the businesses from the ground up. They must create space for the legit business and the drug lab area, while also adding security to defend against other criminal rivals and the police. The trailer shows complete chaos as the lab is raided by authorities and criminal employees in shootouts with rival gangs.

Players will also be able to expand the evil empire, buying adjoining plots of land and creating supply and distribution routes. The gameplay itself looks to be zany and unpredictable, and given the rather dark subject matter, this could make for a very interesting final product when DNFC releases sometime this year. A developer working on the game has also stated that players will be able to ignore the drug running aspect if they choose. There will be a "pacifist run" achievement for those who skip this part of the game.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken already seems like a very interesting idea, and with solid mechanics could prove to be a truly unique new sim title. Perhaps Breaking Bad fans who are still recovering from the end of the series will take on a drug empire, and try to come out a little bit better than Gustavo Fring did. Definitely Not Fried Chicken is definitely a game to keep in mind when it releases sometime this year on Steam.
