When Marvel's Defenders assemble this week on Netflix, it seems that the threat presented by Sigourney Weaver's mysterious character, Alexandra, will have a deep and direct connection to the group of heroes. The official Twitter account for Netflix's Daredevil released a clip showing Alexandra overseeing someone held captive, who turns out to be none other than Matt Murdock's former mentor, Stick.REVIEW: Defenders Review: Marvel's Heroes Start Off Slow But Pack a Punch

The clip, captioned "This is troubling #DEFEND," shows Alexandra telling Stick "Try not to bite, old friend. It's undignified," before she removes a bag from over his head. This is a particularly interesting development as Alexandra has been hinted to be the real leader of the evil ninja order known as the Hand (or maybe something more), while Stick has been opposing them through another secretive group called the Chaste. Apart from training Daredevil, it was also revealed in Daredevil's second season that Stick mentored Elektra prior to her being killed by the Hand.

It's also worth noting that from the previous trailers Stick is the one urging the heroes to band together to combat the ninjas, whose field leader in The Defenders will be none other than a resurrected Elektra. Just how far back this rivalry between Stick and Alexandra goes remains to be seen, but this tease suggests they have quite a storied and personal history.

Arriving Aug. 18 on Netflix, the eight-episode Defenders stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
