Marvel Television still doesn't have any plans for a second season of its Netflix crossover series The Defenders. During an AMA on Reddit, Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb revealed it just isn't in the cards right now.
Asked if Defenders will get a second season, Loeb replied, "Not in the plans right now, but you never know!"
Earlier this year, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter expressed a similar sentiment. “Y’know, I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again. I don’t think we are doing it again,” she said at the time. Loeb's recent statement simply confirms this to be the case.
Released in August 2017, The Defenders brought together the casts of Netflix's four Marvel shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Despite the hype leading up to it, it was reportedly Netflix's least-watched Marvel show, which may be why a second season isn't in development.
Nevertheless, Marvel Netflix is in full swing. Jessica Jones Season 2 hit in March, with Luke Cage Season 2 scheduled to start streaming on June 22. Daredevil Season 3 and Iron Fist Season 2 are also expected this year. What's more, The Punisher Season 2's production is underway, with Jessica Jones Season 3 planning to start filming soon.
Arriving on June 22 on Netflix, Luke Cage Season 2 stars Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson, Mustafa Shakir and Gabrielle Dennis.
