WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 9 of Deca-Dence, "Turbo Charger," now streaming on Funimation.

Deca-Dence has always been fast-paced, and its ninth episode is no different. "Turbo Charger" encompasses the entirety of the Gadoll factory siege, right from its beginning through to the moment where Kaburagi and Natsume wipe out the Gadoll. If the monsters really are eradicated, this invites some serious questions to do with the world of Deca-Dence, which has just been changed forever. Also, the fate of Pipe hangs in the balance.

It's over in 20 minutes, but a lot goes into the monumental operation. After retrieving his avatar and convincing Natsume to tag along, Kaburagi sneaks into the off-limits Gadoll factory and makes a beeline for the GGS (Gadoll Genocide System), a very handy set of levers that terminate all living Gadoll. Meanwhile, the other bugs release wreak havoc with some toxic fumes, helping out from the correctional facility. However, rumors of betrayal come to fruition as Sarkozy succumbs to Turkey's manipulation, ratting Kaburagi out to Hugin.

Luckily, Jill carries the team again by hacking into Hugin's sight. This allows Kaburagi to hold out against the superpowered member of the Game Police. Even this doesn't stop Hugin forever—he appears on the cusp of eliminating Kaburgi (again) when Sarkozy repents for his sins, jumping into the prison cesspit and blowing himself to smithereens. This triggers an eruption big enough to destroy the factory, blasting Hugin away in the process. The main duo then race to the control room, activating the GCC.

Even with the factory destroyed and the Gadoll disintegrating, the dystopian story of Deca-Dence is far from resolved. The Tankers will be hit with the existential crisis of a lifetime when they learn that the world around them is completely manufactured. At the end of the episode, Kaburagi begins to fess up to Natsume, the start of an emotional reveal. It remains to be seen how she'll process the truth — Jill speculates she could have a breakdown, and the same can be said for any Tanker struggling to comprehend what's really going on.

The players are also affected. The lives of those up in space revolve around in-game exploits, and so it will be tough to accept that there is no more monster killing on the horizon. This is assuming the Gadoll are really gone for good, and even that isn't certain. Solid Quake (the all-powerful company pulling the strings) is still around, and those in charge aren't going to disappear. Gadoll production has been halted, but there's every chance the company will simply crush the rebels, repair the factory and start popping out Gadoll as if nothing ever happened.

There's also the issue of Pipe, the tiny bug Gadoll Kaburagi and Natsume keep as a pet. Hearts will be broken if the little guy is really killed along with its bigger, more bloodthirsty brethren. Then again, Pipe is a bug, so there's a chance this quality excludes it from the Gadoll genocide, allowing it to live on forever as the Deca-Dence mascot. As contrived as this would feel, no one would be complaining.

Everything comes back to the central question: Are the Gadoll really gone? Whatever the answer, Deca-Dence has a boatload loose ends to tie up in its last few episodes.
