WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Deathstroke Inc. #2, on sale now.

Deathstroke's latest mission under the employ of T.R.U.S.T. has brought back one of the DC Universe's strangest beings, the Weird. At the same time, the entity handed Deathstroke a much-needed (and completely ignored) warning about the danger that is to come as the Infinite Frontier settles into itself. I

n Deathstroke Inc. #2 (by Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter, Hi-Fi, Steve Wands) after freeing him from his prison aboard a space station, the Weird got a chance to stretch his limbs and show certain aspects of the universe, in particular, what Darkseid is truly after and how the war it will ignite could destroy the new omniverse.

The Weird first debuted in The Weird #1 (by Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson), as a being of pure energy hailing from an alternate dimension. The technical term for his species is Zarolatt, and they had long been oppressed by another alien species known as the Macrolatts, who exploited their energy powers. The Weird was not as accepting of this dynamic and when he discovered that the Macrolatts intended to invade other dimensions, he chose to resist. He escaped to the DC Universe, but without a physical form, he could not do much good. This led him to possess the body of a dead man named Walter Langley. He then worked alongside Earth's heroes to repel the Macrolatts.

The Weird had a number of powers ranging from energy manipulation to super strength. Despite these powers, he never really got many significant appearances after his debut until now. His reappearance has provided the universe with a warning about Darkseid's true goals and how they could affect the rest of the multiverse should he succeed.

The weird had been captured by T.R.U.S.T. scientists, who were performing experiments on him, which was torture for him. An attack by the Cyborg Superman almost killed the Weird but provided him with an opportunity to escape. Deathstroke, Black Canary, and Toyman arrived to repel the attackers and in the process, Toyman discovered what had been happening to the Weird. Feeling a sense of kinship with him due to not fitting in either, Toyman freed the Weird before the station imploded.

Now free and able to survive in space due to his true nature as an incorporeal being, the Weird stretched his metaphorical limbs, reaching outward to catch up with recent events occurring in not just this universe, but all of them. One such glimpse showed him and everyone else Darkseid and his followers gazing out onto the Great Darkness, the source of all evil in the multiverse and a power Darkseid seeks to claim for himself.

This bid for power is not just his alone. Other major figures in the multiverse seek to take that reemerging power for themselves. Trigon, Nekron, the Upside-down Man, and Eclipso all covet this power as well and the quest to claim it will trigger a war between all opposing factions, a battle that could tear the Infinite Frontier apart and undo everything the heroes of the universe fought so hard to reestablish.

This is something most on the Justice League might very well have done anything to get: an advanced warning of a coming crisis. The chance to preempt the damage that could be unleashed, stage coordinated attacks to contain the individuals responsible for the coming calamity is invaluable.

And Deathstroke completely ignored it, still bitter about having to fight in space and cover for Toyman who should not have been there in person. That decision will undoubtedly have consequences down the line when the battle reaches Earth. Of course, it is possible that this is merely the first in a series of clues Deathstroke will receive about the coming threat. Only time will tell.
