Justice League alum Joe Manganiello has accepted the fact that he's unlikely to ever play Deathstroke again.

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Manganiello was asked if he was still hoping to reprise his role as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke so as to further flesh out the character, seeing as how he already got to come back once for Zack Snyder's Justice League. Manganiello replied, "No, I let that go a while ago."

Manganiello first signed on to join the DC Extended Universe back in 2016, with the plan being for the actor's version of Slade Wilson to serve as the main antagonist of a Ben Affleck-led Batman film before starring in a Deathstroke solo movie. However, both projects were ultimately shelved.

Manganiello made his DCEU debut as Deathstroke in 2017's theatrical cut of Justice League, which sees Slade Wilson meet with Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) during a post-credits scene. An alternate version of this sequence eventually saw the light of day in Zack Snyder's director's cut of Justice League, which hit HBO Max earlier this year. The epilogue of Zack Snyder's Justice League also features a "Knightmare" scene, which depicts a post-apocalyptic future where Deathstroke has joined forces with Batman, Cyborg, the Flash, Mera and the Joker against a rogue Superman.

Late last year, Manganiello dished on the plot of Affleck's scrapped Batman solo film, and Deathstroke's role therein. "It was a really dark story in which Deathstroke was like a shark or a horror movie villain that was dismantling Bruce [Wayne]'s life from the inside out," the actor told Yahoo. "It was this systemic thing: he killed everyone close to Bruce and destroyed his life to try and make him suffer because he felt that Bruce was responsible for something that happened to him."

Earlier this year, Manganiello also shed some light on why the Deathstroke solo film got the axe. "When the dust settled, it was not seen as a priority to make a $40 million movie about a villain origin story in which you show the backstory," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Nevertheless, Manganiello also revealed plot details for the never-made Deathstroke film at Justice Con not long after. "It was more of a Tom Clancy ripped from the headlines sort of story, or even like a Bourne Identity where it was going to be really grounded, and political with military drama as far as what it would take to go from devoting his life to his country for this life he believed in to, you know, having the rug pulled out from underneath him and being stabbed in the back and not knowing who to trust," he said.

While fans of the "SnyderVerse" have been vocal in their desire to see Manganiello return to the role of Slade Wilson, the actor's comments seem to indicate that his time as Deathstroke the Terminator is well and truly over.
