Ahead of a trailer, Warner Bros. Animation has released a sneak peek of The Death of Superman, which will adapt the 1992 comic book of the same name. The video offers some new footage as well as insight from co-director Jake Castorena, supervising producer Jake Tucker and more.
Doomsday won't be the only struggle Superman faces in the upcoming animated film. He will also have an "identity crisis" of sorts, where he grapples with the idea of letting Lois Lane in on his greatest secret. Additionally, the movie will introduce Superman staple Bo "Bibbo" Bibbowski and his bar the Ace o' Clubs.
The footage offers a glimpse at Doomsday, who successfully kills Superman in the comic book storyline of the same name. In the clips, the Man of Steel also interacts with Lois Lane, Bibbo and the whole rest of the Justice League. The video also shows the arrival of Doomsday and a glimpse of his fight against characters like Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Wonder Woman.
In the original “Death of Superman,” the Man of Steel sacrifices himself to save Metropolis from a rampage by Doomsday, a seemingly unstoppable monster genetically-engineered from the depths of prehistoric Superman’s home world, Krypton.
Debuting this summer on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD, The Death of Superman stars Jerry O'Connell as Superman, Rebecca Romijn as Lois Lane, Rainn Wilson as Lex Luthor, Jason O’Mara as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Matt Lanter as Aquaman, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Christopher Gorham as The Flash and Shemar Moore as Cyborg. Announced in July 2017, it’s part of a two-movie animated epic that will conclude next year with the release of Reign of the Supermen.
