WARNING: The following contains spoilers for "No More Superheroes" from Dark Nights Death Metal: The Last 52 War of the Multiverses #1 by Regine Sawyer, Alitha Martinez, Mark Morales, Emilio Lopez & Tom Napolitano, on sale now.

The Dark Multiverse is home to terrifying versions of classic DC heroes and villains, corrupted into new nightmarish forms. Now, one of the most dangerous forces within the Dark Multiverse has made their formal appearance after being teased by the Robin King -- and she's more fearsome than anyone could have ever expected.

Lois Lane just encountered her darkest incarnation ever -- one that has embraced a life of unbelievable brutality.

In the height of the final battle for the fate of the multiverse, Lois Lane finds herself standing before an army of rebellious and violent brawlers -- all led by a powerful and deadly alternate version of Lois Lane. Wearing Superman-themed power armor, wielding Aquaman's trident, with Wonder Woman's lasso and Batman's utility belt on her person, it's clear this version of Lois is a far more physically imposing and dangerous force than most incarnations of the character. Lois eventually gets the chance to confront her alternate self and learns how she could have become such a dark figure.

On her world, the Dark Multiverse version of Lois was an outspoken critic of figures like Superman. With her reporting, she did her best to draw the public's attention and fury towards them. She even heavily worked with Maxima, who in this world was a scientist at STAR Labs who served as Lois's primary source. But one day, Maxima decided to take matters into her own hands and gave herself powers. The ensuing battle between her and Superman led to wide-spread destruction across Metropolis -- notably burning down the Daily Planet and destroying a museum her son Jon was visiting on a school trip. While Lois survived the experience, Jon did not. This spurred Lois to use her next opening -- an interview with Superman during his "apology tour" -- to use Amber Kryptonite created by Maxima.

The kryptonite absorbed all the powers of Superman and imbued them within Lois -- who then proceeded to kill Superman and cut his head off as a trophy. Lois went on to inspire her entire world to turn against superheroes, bringing about the end of the heroic age to thunderous and terrifying cheers. It's an absolutely brutal take on Lois, and one who is far more tragic and twisted than even the Robin King hinted at previously. She's furious when she finds the core-DC Universe Lois, unaware of just how close she is with the man that this murderer took great pleasure in destroying. The core-universe Lois is fully horrified by this version of herself, and how she harnassed her gift for the written word to turn the populace against their would-be protectors.

The dark Lois reveals her belief that the world falling apart is the natural consequence of believing in superheroes and even tries to goad the core-universe Lois into calling out to her Superman -- all so this version of Lois can try to kill her enemy once more. It's interesting to see a version of Lois who embraced the more militant approach to superheroes that her father had before her -- and that in doing so, she proved to be a far more formidable foe to the Man of Steel on her world than Lex Luthor ever did. She even likely stole her Superman armor from Lex, as it's modeled heavily on the one worn by Luthor during his brief tenure as a member of the Justice League. It's easily the most threatening Lois Lane ever -- and one that could be a serious threat if she ever returned in any real way, shape, or form.
