WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #1 by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia and Tom Napolitano, available now.

A new variant cover for Dark Nights: Death Metal Legends of the Dark Knights #1 reveals an apocalyptic scene from artist Kaare Andrews.

The Death Metal tie-in's cover features the Batman Who Laughs, the Robin King and T-Rex Batman standing amid the destruction of a burning city. The one-shot will showcase the unknown origins of the Dark Nights characters like Robin King, a sentient Batmobile and Batman T-Rex.

In Death Metal #1, the Batman Who Laughs controls the conquered Earth that’s been corrupted by Dark Multiverse energy.  The Dark Knights rule alongside of him, and while some of them like Dawnbreaker and the Drowned had specials during the first Dark Nights Metal event, Legends of the Dark Knights will cover new characters specific to Death Metal.

The Robin King stands apart from the rest of the other evil crows, as he has an intelligence and strategy that exceeds those of his monstrous brethren. He may just take the dark crown himself after the Batman Who Laughs was seemingly killed by the invisible chainsaw-wielding Wonder Woman.

Dark Nights: Death Metal Legends of the Dark Knights #1 is available on August 4.
