Heroes in Crisis by Tom King and Clay Mann saw Wally West's darkest day, with the longtime Flash losing control and accidentally killing many of his heroic allies. That event has lingered over the character's head ever since -- and now, he's gotten the chance to face that darkness head-on.

While fighting against a serial killer version of the Flash from the Dark Multiverse, Wally West finally got the chance to settle affairs with the friend he accidentally killed -- Roy Harper -- and resolve one of the chief lingering beats from Heroes in Crisis.

Death Metal Dark Wally West

The Dark Multiverse is composed of nightmarish corruptions of classic DC heroes and villains, where the events of their lives took decidedly dark turns. One such corruption is a version of Wally West, who arrives on the final battlefield. Wearing half of a Sanctuary mask and wielding twin pistols, this dark version of the Flash is revealed to be a dark twist on the already dour events of Heroes In Crisis. In the core DC Universe, Wally West was one of the heroes admitted to Sanctuary, a safe house dedicated to providing mental health assistance to superheroes. After being overwhelmed by grief, Wally's powers lashed out uncontrollably and killed numerous other heroes present, including his longtime friend, Roy Harper.

While the main Wally was horrified by what had accidentally occurred, the dark Wally purposely lashed out at his fellow heroes. Developing a taste for murder, this Wally soon turned his attention on the rest of the world and became known as the "Fastest Killer Alive." Dark Wally targeted other heroes across his world, including all the Teen Titans. He almost claims the lives of the current Titans as well, if not for the mainstream DC Universe Wally rushing in and catching all the bullets fired at them. Dark Wally gets the drop on Flash in the process, but a timely arrow from the reanimated Roy Harper keeps the mainstream Wally alive.

One of the heroes restored to a form of life by Batman's Black Lantern Ring before the final battle, Roy was shown looking at Wally with a meaningful gaze during The Last Stories of the DC Universe. But unlike the other assembled Teen Titans -- who give Wally wide-breadth and disapproving glances when he arrived -- Roy tells Wally that he understands what happened to them both at Sanctuary, that he doesn't see him as anything like the murderous version of him he just put down and doesn't blame Wally for the accident that claimed his life.

This all allows the pair to share a small moment during this lull in the battle before turning their attentions to the army of demented Robins, fighting side-by-side at the end of the world. The fallout of Heroes in Crisis has seen Wally West taking a strange and dark path towards redemption. But it's also been one of mourning for Roy Harper, who at least gets one last chance to shine before likely returning to the grave. At least at the end of all things, he and one of his oldest friends were able to move past the pain that had lingered since the events of Heroes in Crisis.
