Elvira is killing Elvira in a new super-sized Death of Elvira comic issue, and there's nobody who is more excited about this than Elvira.

Elvira and Dynamite Entertainment have released a brand new Elvira comic, The Death of Elvira, that does the unthinkable -- kill the Mistress of the Dark. "I've done a lot of wild things as the Mistress of the Dark," said Elvira. "Everything from film to television, music to comics - even wearing wired headphones and yoga pants! But there was one huge item left on my bucket list - DYING! Don't panic horror hounds, there's more to this spine-tingling tale than meets the eye!"

The synopsis for The Death of Elvira reads, "They say every great comic book hero dies once or twice. Usually... they get better. 30 years ago, Superman met his end by the hands of Doomsday. Dynamite's own Vampirella was felled by her nemesis Nyx. Now it's the Mistress of the Dark's turn - could this be the Death of Elvira? Or is this just a desperate attempt to get fans to buy this thrilling issue? Only one way to find out!"

The story is set around Elvira's wake, which has an enormous guest list of monsters, ghouls, stalkers, directors, actors and more. While they all take turns sharing memories and flashbacks of Elvira's life, the mistress' killer might also be lurking somewhere around the party -- leading Elvira to solve the mystery of who killed her from beyond the grave.

The Death of Elvira comes from writer David Avallone, who wrote Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Shape of Elvira, Elvira Meet Vincent Price and more. "We were looking for a way to really honor the 40th Anniversary of Elvira, and I thought the best way to do that would be a recap of her incredible life and career," Avallone said. "But I needed a dramatic reason to do it... and decided to go with the most dramatic reason possible: her death!"

Elvira got her start roughly 40 years ago when Cassandra Peterson debuted her alter ego during the premiere of Elvira's Movie Macabre in 1981. The show, which saw the titular character host and provide commentary on over 100 cult classic horror movies, launched Elvira's career and paved the way for her to appear in numerous comics, albums, films and more. Last year, Shudder released a four-episode season of Elvira's 40th Anniversary, Very Scary, Very Special, Special, which saw her return to the roles of host and commentator. Along with the comic, The Death of Elvira also comes 40th-anniversary trading cards.

The Death of Elvira comes from Avallone and artist Silvia Califano (Star Trek: Year FiveElvira in Horrorland), with cover art from Dave Acosta and John Royle. The issue is available now from Dynamite Entertainment and can be purchased at IndieGoGo.
