TNT is developing a drama based on Dean Koontz’s five-novel Frankenstein series, Deadline reports. Screenwriter James V. Hart (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, 1994’s Frankenstein) and his son Jake Hart will write the project from Lionsgate Television and 1019 Entertainment.
Debuting in 2004 with Prodigal Son, Frankenstein is a reinvention of the Mary Shelley classic, follows Victor Frankenstein (now using the name Victor Helios) and his creation nearly two centuries after they believed they killed each other on the Arctic ice. Kept alive by science, Helios has continued to create lifeforms to suit his own purposes. When the creature, now calling himself Deucalion, discovers Frankenstein is alive and in the same city, an epic war begins, with New Orleans caught in the middle.
James Hart and Koontz are set to produce.
The is the second television go-around for Koontz’s Frankenstein, which aired on USA Network as a TV movie/back-door pilot, based on a treatment by Koontz and his co-author Kevin J. Anderson. The series wasn’t picked up.
