X-Men Origins: Wolverine is often regarded as one of the weakest entries in the Fox X-Men movie franchise. And one of the biggest criticisms of the film is its portrayal of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. When it was released in 2009, fans wanted nothing more than to see the Merc With the Mouth on the big screen. And with Ryan Reynolds attached to the role, it seemed like a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, the character's portrayal in the film was anything but and has since become a sore subject among the fandom. However, with the multiverse bringing in heroes and villains from various franchises, now may be the best time to revisit the worst Deadpool.

Since the initial appearance of Deadpool from X-Men Origins, another far more accurate representation of the character has appeared in two films. Not only is Ryan Reynolds still playing as the merc with the mouth, but he's able to bring his humor to the forefront while blending in an array of elaborate and violent action pieces. With this version of the character taking off, the X-Men Origins version would make for the perfect foil.

Who Is the Marvel Movie Universe's Worst Deadpool and What Are His Powers?

The X-Men Origins version of the character is officially called Weapon XI, being the 11th project from William Stryker using adamantium bonding. Unfortunately, the host for this project was Wade Wilson, who could not aid Logan in his hunt for Stryker and Sabertooth during the film. Not only was he subjected to the experimentation that left him scarred, but he was also left unable to talk.

Based on the results from Wolverine's adamantium experiment, Wilson gained two adamantium blades that came out of the top of his forearms. He was also given Wolverine's healing factor, making him nearly indestructible. By utilizing the DNA of other mutants, he also gained the power to teleport from a mutant named Wraith and could fire optic beams thanks to Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. When all these abilities meshed, Wilson became a nearly unstoppable force that Wolverine couldn't take on alone.

Is Wolverine: Origins' Deadpool Still Alive in Marvel's Movie Multiverse?

The final fight in X-Men Origins: Wolverine sees Logan and Sabertooth taking on Weapon XI on top of a nuclear reactor. And thanks to an old strategy where the pair stood back to back, the brothers defeated Wilson by beheading him. However, the film managed to let fans know that this version of Deadpool was still nearly impossible to kill in an after-credits scene. In the scene, Weapon XI's arm is shown in the rubble, retracting his blade and reaching for his head. With his mouth now open, he then looks at the camera and shushes the audience. Since that scene, the character has yet to reappear, but with the multiverse opening countless doors, he could find his way back to the action.

Why Would Evil Deadpool Be Disney Deadpool's Best MCU Villain?

With Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds both firmly a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's entirely possible Weapon XI could return. Considering Deadpool doesn't have a massive list of rogues from the comics, the best choice would be to take on a ghost of his past with Weapon XI. Not only is this version more powerful and deadlier than Wade, but he also has nothing to lose. Deadpool 2 has teased the character killing his past self before, but that scene was mainly played for laughs.

If Weapon XI were to appear thanks to the multiverse, however, it would directly mock how Marvel Studios can take whoever they want and put them in a movie. And while it would be great to see Wade take this version of his character as a joke, Weapon XI's display of power could lead to amazingly stylized fight sequences. More importantly, though, Weapon XI offers a chance for Wade to up his own game to defeat what is essentially his "evil twin" and finally put Marvel's worst Deadpool to rest.
