When Deadpool was first introduced in 1991, it was pretty evident that the character was a blatant ripoff of the popular DC villain, Deathstroke. Deadpool creator Rob Leifeld even explained his creative process in borrowing elements from Deathstroke to create what would become one of Marvel’s most popular characters in recent years. The two characters are so similar that even their names, Slade and Wade Wilson, play off of each other.

For all of their similarities though, there are still several key differences between the two that easily set them apart from the other. Because of these differences, fans have often debated as to who would win in a fight between the two. Both sides make some very valid arguments, though certain factors can help determine a definitive winner. To look at some of those specific factors, here is our input on Deadpool vs Deathstroke, and who would actually win in a fight.

11 Enemy Power Level: Deathstroke

Over the years, Deathstroke’s contracts have become more and more challenging. While he is typically associated with being a Teen Titans villain, he has taken on far greater challenges, and lived to fulfill many of them. In his time as a mercenary, Deathstroke has encountered gods and even faced off against each member of DC’s Trinity.

Though Deathstroke has lost a few battles, he has still emerged victorious at times, even managing to successfully escape from Superman. Though he may not have an arch nemesis, Deathstroke has still faced off against far more powerful threats, all without a healing factor.

10 Main Inherent Power: Deathstroke

Though Deadpool’s abilities are a bit more obvious, Slade Wilson still has some of his own. Deathstroke’s own senses are actually enhanced giving him all sorts of advantages during combat. Even missing an eye, Deathstroke is still an incredible marksman.

He can also lift more than the average man, though he doesn’t have super strength. Even though he isn’t exactly “super” there are still many alterations to Slade’s body that enhance his performance. Furthermore, while Deadpool still has his handy healing power, it is really the only thing “super” about him, meaning that Slade has the more practical ability. Hence, Deathstroke is the winner of this round.

9 Main External Power: Deadpool

Deathstroke’s enhancements may affect all of his abilities, but Deadpool’s healing factor is easily the more useful of the two. Because of his healing factor, Deadpool is essentially immortal. Throughout his publication, Wade Wilson has experienced some of the worst injuries imaginable, only to be perfectly fine moments later.

Wade’s healing factor also cures him from his terminal cancer that is constantly eating away at his body. Unlike Wolverine’s healing factor, Deadpool’s is unique in that his body must constantly be eating away at itself in order to function effectively. While Deathstroke’s abilities are enhanced, making him the better combatant of the two, Deadpool’s incredible healing factor makes him incredibly hard to put down.

8 Experience: Deathstroke

Not only is Deathstroke the older character between the two, but he is also far more experienced. Throughout his history, Deathstroke has faced many powerful opponents. However, he has also survived a lot more dangerous encounters, situations that would have easily killed Deadpool had he not had the healing factor.

Granted, Deadpool has certainly gotten himself into far weirder situations, but there’s no denying that Deathstroke has experienced far more dangerous situations, or honed his skills, much more than Deadpool has. Because of the many factors that Deathstroke has from his backstory, there’s no doubt that he has much more general experience than Deadpool.

7 Allies: Deadpool

For as often as Deadpool annoys just about every other character in the Marvel Universe, many other characters still understand that he isn’t a completely bad guy. In fact, many of Deadpool’s shenanigans have started or ended with him actually trying to do the right thing.

Because of this, several individuals from both the Avengers and X-Men would (begrudgingly) come to his aide. Deathstroke, on the other hand, really has no allies of his own. He does have people close to him who have worked alongside him for years, though none of them would be able to hold their own against the likes of Deadpool’s allies. As a result, Deadpool is the definitive winner of this round.

6 Personality: Deadpool

Without a doubt, Deadpool has the better personality between the two. That’s not to say that Slade isn’t an interesting character by any means, but there are several other characters in comics and other media that bear a similar personality. Deadpool on the other hand, is a much more unique personality with a lot more sass and humor about him.

His constant jabbering and vulgarity make it easy to see why he is called, “The Merc With A Mouth.” Deadpool also has a darker sense of humor, making him all the more entertaining for comic fans. Even though his personality can still be a bit too much for everyone to love, Deadpool is much more of a distinct personality than Deathstroke, making Wade the winner in this regard.

5 Strength: Deathstroke

As mentioned previously, the serum that runs throughout Slade’s body makes him a bit stronger than the average human. Furthermore, his extensive training as an assassin allows him to utilize his body in its maximum potential. He is also much more calculated with his moves than Deadpool, who typically runs in swinging without a plan.

Though he may try his best, Deadpool just isn’t anywhere near as strong as Deathstroke is. While neither is known for their incredible strength, Deathstroke is still the stronger of the two, making him the victor of this category.

4 Equipment: Tie

Both wade and Slade utilize an absurd amount of firepower and weaponry. Each character is a great marksman and skilled in sword fighting, making them some of the deadliest killers in their respective universes. Likewise, the two of them are almost always armed to the teeth and great at using their environment to their advantage.

With their equipment, the two have dealt devastating amounts of damage to buildings, streets, aircraft, and of course, their opponents. They each have also been shown using advanced technology, though nothing really sticks around for the character to use more than once. Because of the methods the two use, they are pretty equal when it comes to their equipment.

3 Durability: Deadpool

Of course, Deadpool’s healing factor makes him the more durable of the two. Though he would certainly take far more blows than Slade would, Wade would come back into the battlefield mere moments after being taken down. His random nature also makes him unpredictable giving him yet another advantage.

However, no matter how much damage Deathstroke deals to Deadpool, Deadpool would eventually tire Deathstroke out, making him easier to kill in the end. While it may seem like an unfair advantage for Wade in this case, it doesn’t change the fact that his healing factor is one of the most useful and helpful abilities in all of comics.

2 Biggest Feat: Deadpool

Despite not being canon with the rest of the Marvel Universe, Deadpool has still been shown to take down the entirety of the Marvel Universe. In the popular story, Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe, Wade goes on a total rampage, murdering every Marvel character in his path.

Thanks to this story though, it shows just how deadly Deadpool could be if he really wanted to. Unfortunately for Deathstroke, he is nowhere near powerful enough to take down the DC Universe. While he is still an incredible assassin, Slade doesn’t have what it takes to take down DC’s most powerful protectors. Because of this, Deadpool emerges as the victor of this round.

1 Winner: Deadpool

Without his healing factor, this match would have certainly ended much differently. Thankfully for Deadpool though, his healing factor, combined with his unpredictability, make him the more likely character to win, should the two ever actually engage in combat.

While Deathstroke is obviously the more skilled combatant, he would never be able to put a permanent end to Deadpool the way he has so many others. For however close it any have been, Deadpool is still the winner.
