The marketing blitz for the Super Bowl may not have included any TV commercials for Deadpool 2, as fans had hoped, but that didn't keep the film's official Twitter account from getting in on Sunday's big game.
Using the hashtag #DPtheSB, the account began the night with the message, "Remember that time I was wrist-deep in cocoa butter and Fox called to say they were too cheap to buy a spot in the big game then told me I had to live tweet it? Cause I do..." This came in response to an article stating the sequel wouldn't be among the movies rolling out a pricey Super Bowl TV spot.
From there, @deadpoolmovie joined the rest of the world in posting random thoughts online. When singer/songwriter Pink opened with the National Anthem, we learned the Merc with a Mouth is a big fan of the artist, which extends to the actual color pink as well.
God, I love Pink (and not just the pop singer). Besides being my 2nd favorite shade of red, it's also the color of the inside of people's outsides and that lady biker gang from Grease. #DPtheSB— Deadpool Movie (@deadpoolmovie) February 4, 2018
Other thoughts included a look at a rather interesting double-sided Deadpool coin, Wade Wilson's favorite Super Bowl commercials, what happened during the period of dead air and black screens, and the halftime show.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison in an unknown role, and Jack Kesy as a villain widely thought to be Black Tom Cassidy. The film hits theaters on May 18.
