One character than fans wanted to make his movie debut from X-Men comics was Deadpool. Sadly, once he made his first appearance in the movies, it was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the filmmakers butchered the character, taking away everything fans loved about the Merc with a Mouth.

However, the one good decision that the movie made was signing Ryan Reynolds to play Deadpool, or whatever it ended up turning that character into. Reynolds was so intent on getting the character right that he almost single-handedly spearheaded the Deadpool movies and brought the comic character to the big screen in a manner he deserved. Without further ado, here is a look at five ways Deadpool was comic accurate and five ways he was not.

10 ACCURATE: THE CANCER

Deadpool Unmasked

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wade Wilson was part of a black ops team under William Striker and ended up going after Striker killed each member of the team one-by-one, giving Wade the powers of these mutants. Thankfully, Deadpool got it right. Wade had cancer in the comics, which led him to get the treatment that gave him his powers. The treatment seared his skin and made him look the way he does, and all that is comic book accurate.

9 NOT: HOW HE GOT HIS POWERS

Ajax tortures Wade Wilson

What isn't comic book accurate is how he got his powers. The one thing that X-Men Origins: Wolverine got right was having Wade get his powers during treatment at the same place that Wolverine was experimented on — the Weapon X facility. However, in the comics, it was Logan's healing powers that were given to Wade, which had some pretty harsh side effects. In Deadpool, it was a facility run by Ajax to awaken his mutant genes.

8 ACCURATE: HIS POWERS

Now, there is one way that Deadpool's powers are not comic book accurate. Deadpool, in the comics, is not a mutant. He received Logan's healing powers, therefore he has powers from a mutant, but he is not a mutant. In the Deadpool movie, he gets his mutant powers awakened, which is not what happened in the comics. However, his powers are comic book accurate, with him able to regenerate just about any lost limb and heal over time from any injury.

7 NOT: X-FORCE

The fact that Deadpool formed X-Force in the second Deadpool movie was something created just for the world of the films. It was honestly only done for three reasons. One was to introduce Domino into the movie, the second was the link to Cable, and the third was for comedy effects.

However, this is not comic book accurate. X-Force in the comics was The New Mutants when Cable took over as their leader and made them more than just X-Men in training. They are also a lot more capable than the team that Deadpool put together.

6 ACCURATE: ANTAGONISTIC PARTNERSHIPS

If there is one thing that Deadpool is known for in the Marvel Comics that he appeared in, it is his inability to get along with other heroes. He can't even get along with Spider-Man, who is a jokester at heart as well. He is the least likable and trustworthy anti-hero anyone could team with. In Deadpool 2, this is shown perfectly through the Regenerating Degenerate's interactions with Cable and Colossus. The difficult personality of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is exactly how the character acts in the comic book world.

5 NOT: INSANITY

Deadpool is a lot of things in the movies. He is reckless. He refuses to take anything or anyone seriously. He will do anything he wants no matter what anyone else, or his own common sense, tells him. However, he isn't insane. In the comic books, there are often word blocks that appear on the pages with Deadpool talking to himself, and he never listens. In the movie, we hear his thoughts, but Deadpool isn't insane. In the comics, he is 100-percent certifiable.

4 ACCURATE: SARCASTIC HUMOR

While Deadpool is not insane in the movies, he has the mouth that made Marvel Comics nickname him as the Merc with a Mouth. He never stops talking in the comic books and drives Spider-Man crazy, which says a lot since Spidey has that effect on other heroes and villains.

In the movies, it is the same. He makes fun of everyone around him. He disses Colossus, Cable, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. He makes fun of his enemies so harshly that they want to do more than just kill him, spending the entire first movie making fun of Ajax just because his name is Francis. It is a perfect replication of his comic book counterpart.

3 NOT: WEAPON XI

X-Men Origins Wolverine Deadpool

While this was retconned in the two Deadpool movies, it has to be mentioned here. If it wasn't for Ryan Reynolds, the only thing movie fans would know about Deadpool was that he was a guy who had his mouth sewed closed and had the powers of various X-Men members. In other words, he wasn't Deadpool at all. Thankfully, Deadpool 2 fixed this by having him go back in time to eliminate this abomination.

2 ACCURATE: THE FOURTH WALL

Deadpool Anatomy feature

The best thing about Deadpool in the comics is that he has medium awareness. In the comics, this is because of the Beyonder transporting him to the Foundation of Reality, so he knows he is a comic book character. This means he always talks to the readers about what is happening in the comics at the moment. He does the same thing in the movies. Some might say this proves he is insane, but it is better just to believe he is all-knowing.

1 NOT: THE UNRELIABLE NARRATOR

There is one significant thing to know about Deadpool in comic books. He is always talking, whether it is to the readers or to heroes who have to trust him at any given time. The problem is that, because Deadpool is insane, he often lies, and sometimes he has no idea he is lying because he has no idea what he is about to do. The movies changed that. Deadpool may be unpredictable, but he is trustworthy to the audience, and there is no reason for any movie viewer to think he has misled them.
