WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Deadpool #7 by Kelly Thompson, Gerardo Sandoval, Victor Nava, and Chris Sotomayor, on sale now.

Deadpool probably isn't the first character that comes to mind when considering the great romances in the Marvel Universe. While the films depicted him as being a softy at heart, the comics don't lean into that as much. This is exactly why it was so surprising that he and former Nextwave member Elsa Bloodstone have recently started a relationship, however, it might not be destined to last.

Now that he is King of the Monsters, Deadpool has found someone to help ease the heaviness that is the crown with Elsa Bloodstone, monster hunter extraordinaire. After helping him escape Kraven the Hunter, the two went on to try and stop the giant monster Smash Smash from wreaking havoc on Manhattan. When they couldn't get through to him, they had to put the beast down, and in a moment of somber reflection held hands.

Being Marvel's King of the Monsters isn't all fun and games, though, especially not when Elsa also needs his help. The Bloodstone embedded in her palm from which she derives her powers is infected and killing her. She tells Wade that the two of them are going into The Seam, a tear between their dimension and the dimension of the Bone Beasts. Once they find the Bone Beast Queen and slay it, the infection, as well as the rest of the Bone Beasts, should be gone for good. Wade has a few questions about the mission and learns that the Bone Beasts are a hive mind of sorts, being mostly controlled by the Bone Beast Queen. He also recognizes, from Elsa's descriptions, that their dimension is where she sent him temporarily after shooting him in the head with a Black Bullet to escape Kraven the Hunter. This only raises more concerns for the risk of Wade himself, or Jeff the Landshark, becoming infected by the Bone Beasts black tar, but Elsa reassures him that they should be fine, as she believes the Bloodstone is what left her open to infection in the first place. She recalls being attacked by the creatures in Prague and firing a blast from her Bloodstone into The Seam while they tried to pull her into their dimension. This was enough for her to find her escape but also left her with the infection that is slowly draining her life.

Somewhere in Greenland, the two find The Seam, and it is pouring Bone Beasts out onto a nearby village. Once Wade has convinced Elsa that they need to rescue the people below before heading into The Seam, they dive into the fray, slicing and dicing their way through hordes of Bone Beasts. Even little Jeff is doing his part by chomping down a few of the creatures. When Elsa's infection downs her during the fight, Deadpool cleans out the rest of the invading horde and gets her to her feet. Time is running out, and there's a whole mountain to climb for them to get where they need to be.

Once, they make it through The Seam, they're greeted by what seems to be a cave covered in Bone Beast mouths. As the walls snarl and snap all around them, they pass through with caution, until Deadpool walks himself face-first into the Bone Beast Queen. The big ugly is a sight to behold, and it is glad to see that company has finally arrived.

Apparently, the Bone Beast Queen was expecting them all, and thanks Elsa for bringing her new body to her in one piece. It seems that Deadpool is set to replace Elsa as the Bone Beast Queen's new host, shocking Deadpool, and presumably Jeff the Landshark.
